SEATTLE — Luke Weaver’s spotless May was among the Mets’ top individual performances for the month.
The veteran reliever had 11 appearances for the month without an earned run allowed.
He extended that streak to 12 games after pitching 1 ¹/₃ scoreless innings in Monday night’s 3-2 loss the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. He dropped his ERA to 2.77.
“It’s something I am not trying to focus on — it’s a long season,” Weaver said, referring to the scoreless streak.
“It only takes one outing to screw everything up, but it was a nice month.”
Weaver’s impressive numbers included 17 strikeouts and four walks over 14 innings, allowing only nine hits.
How does Weaver build off his May performance?
“Just stacking the next one together with the next,” he said. “It’s not trying to get too emotionally attached to outing after outing. It’s more about building. If you want to stack them together, you stack months together.
“The first month was not as smooth and I think there’s adjustments and things that I needed to make and did that. The results are the results, but the underlying things — location, mixing pitches, being able to feel consistently right mentally and physically, being smart in situations it made sense to — those are how I evaluate outings.”
Francisco Alvarez is scheduled to be behind the plate for four or five innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.
It will be his first minor league rehab game after undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Kodai Senga is scheduled to pitch a minor league rehab game — potentially his last before he’s evaluated for a return to the Mets — on Wednesday with Syracuse.
The right-hander will make a “normal start,” according to manager Carlos Mendoza, meaning about 85 pitches.
Austin Warren’s appearance as the opener Monday marked his first career major league start.
Sean Manaea entered in the second inning and allowed one hit, a home run, over five innings.
Jonah Tong will pitch behind an opener Tuesday.
Carson Benge on Sunday became the 12th rookie in franchise history to hit a leadoff homer.
Mike Baxter was the previous Mets rookie to begin a game with a homer, on Aug. 30, 2012.
