Hyderabad: A transgender woman has received financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for breast implant surgery, in what queer rights groups described as the first such case supported through the scheme. The financial assistance was extended following directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, according to representatives of Queer Bandhu Parents Association.

The association said the support marked another step towards expanding access to healthcare services for transgender persons in Telangana and strengthening their right to live with dignity.

Following the successful surgery, a delegation led by Queer Bandhu Parents Association founder-president M. Mukanda Mala met the Chief Minister’s officer on special duty Vemula Srinivasulu and expressed gratitude to the government. The association thanked the Chief Minister for working towards the welfare, empowerment and social inclusion of the transgender community and other LGBTQ persons in the state.

According to the association, the Chief Minister had earlier stated that the government would support the welfare and healthcare needs of transgender persons and other members of the LGBTQ community.
