Peabo Bryson’s Cause of Death, The Singer Endured A Stroke Shortly Before His Sudden Demise at 75

Peabo Bryson has recently passed away on June 2, 2026, at the age of 75. The singer worked with multiple record labels throughout his career, including Elektra, Columbia, and Walt Disney. He was an expert in genres like R&B, soul, and smooth jazz. Peabo released 21 albums in his career, starting with his self-titled project in 1976. A few of his albums, like Crosswinds, I Am Love, Don’t Play with Fire, and Born to Love, managed to take a spot on top of the Billboard charts.

Peabo Bryson suffered a stroke a few days before his death

Although Peabo Bryson’s family first confirmed the news of his demise, a cause of death has not been revealed. Notably, the heartbreaking update arrived a few days after he had a stroke on May 31, 2026 (ET). A representative for Bryson told PEOPLE at that time that he was under medical care and continued:

“At this time, the family requests privacy as they navigate this deeply personal moment together. The thoughts, prayers and love of friends and fans are welcomed and deeply appreciated.”

Back in 2019, Peabo had a similar problem when he was hospitalised for a mild heart attack. The health emergency happened when he was at his home. A representative later shared an update, saying that Peabo was stable and he was also responsive. The representative mentioned that the medical team and family members were expecting a fast recovery. As of this writing, it remains unknown if the health issues had anything to do with his sudden demise.

Peabo Bryson continued performing despite the health problems

Although Peabo Bryson had a heart attack in 2019, he recovered and returned to performing on stage. His first show was in Georgia at the Mable House Amphitheater. Notably, he was being joined by Freddie Jackson and Howard Hewett. Peabo said at that time that he would reveal more details about his health issue on the show and added:

“This is the first time I get to play Atlanta since the heart attack and all of that. I’m healthy and anxious, and excited to be back on stage at this particular point.”

Shortly after his recovery, Peabo shared a Facebook post with a photo that was taken at the hospital. Peabo wrote that he wants to thank everyone for coming together and praying for him. For the unversed, Peabo is also a father of two children, born from his past relationships. One of them is born from his marriage to Tanya Boniface. The pair tied the knot in 2010.

In a lengthy statement confirming his death, Peabo Bryson’s family said that he died at 5:00 p.m. ET on June 2, 2026. They said he was surrounded by his loved ones and that his music also created a legacy that is expected to live in everyone’s hearts forever.
