Patna: A large crowd of students gathered outside educator Khan Sir’s coaching institute near Musallahpur Haat in Patna on Wednesday, a day after firing was reported outside the premises. The incident led to a heavy deployment of security personnel in the area.
Students were seen waiting outside the coaching centre and raising slogans, demanding justice and security following the attack in which a security guard was reportedly injured.
“We want justice. We want security. We want security,” a student told ANI.
Speaking to ANI, SP City Diksha said the individuals involved appeared to be associated with a coaching centre located across the road.
“Everything is currently being verified; formal complaints are being recorded, and further proceedings are underway. All video footage is being thoroughly scrutinised. We have received reports that one person was injured and is undergoing treatment. So far, 10 to 12 individuals have been identified,” she said.
Reacting to the incident, Khan Sir alleged a conspiracy and claimed that rivalry among coaching institutes was behind the attack.
“It’s jealousy. It’s a nexus. If so many children are getting results at such a low cost, then businessmen entering the field in the guise of teachers are bound to be affected,” he said.
Khan Sir said classes were underway when the incident occurred and claimed the attackers vandalised property and assaulted the security guard.
“We were inside the chamber while teachers were taking classes. The guard said he could not understand what was happening. There was so much beating and destruction,” he said.
On security arrangements, Khan Sir said both self-protection measures and police action were necessary.
“The police cannot be present at all times. They have arrived and are still on campus. But these attacks are carried out in a planned manner,” he said.
Demanding strict action, he alleged that the injured guard was brutally assaulted.
“We will ask the police to take strict action. He was covered in blood. It was a very serious attack,” Khan Sir said.
Calling the incident “shameless,” he said education should remain accessible to all, especially students from economically weaker backgrounds.
“If someone has a grievance, there are ways to address it. Every child has the right to education. We work to make education affordable and accessible,” he added.
Khan Sir confirmed that a named FIR had been registered and all available CCTV footage had been handed over to the police.
“We have filed an FIR. The police investigation is ongoing. There are around 20 CCTV cameras installed across the premises,” he said.
He also said security arrangements would be strengthened and claimed that threats had been issued against the coaching institute.
“Our online batches were in progress when the attack took place. The security guard’s head was badly injured. The attackers threatened to blow up the coaching institute within two days,” he alleged.
Describing the attack as a “childish act,” Khan Sir reiterated that the perpetrators were linked to rival coaching centres.
“The guard has clearly stated that the attackers belong to rival coaching institutes. We have requested the strictest action, and the police are likely to make arrests soon. The identities of those involved have been established,” he said.
Shots were reportedly fired outside the coaching institute on Tuesday night. A security guard sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital.
SP Kartikeya K Sharma said the police were recording statements and conducting an investigation.
“This is a case involving physical assault. The injured guard is undergoing treatment. Further action is being taken after recording statements from the victim and local residents,” he said.
Following the incident, senior police officials, including the Patna SSP and SP, along with multiple police teams, reached the spot. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
