Spider-Man and Peter Parker actor Tom Holland made the admission to Saturday Night Live Legend and fellow actor, Amy Poehler, on her podcast Good Hang, earlier this week

Tom Holland has admitted that he is “scared” of hosting the world-famous comedy show, Saturday Night Live, over one key part of the production. The British actor, known for his landing the role of Peter Parker/ Spider Man in the Marvel Cinematic universe, has a very impressive career dating back to when he was just a child.

Before his big Marvel debut, Holland, who turned 30 on June 1, was a child actor in the disaster drama The Impossible, which earned him several awards. But while starting his impressive career, not many people knew that Holland had a hidden health battle and struggled with dyslexia and ADHD.

The former has been confirmed as the reason why he has refused to host SNL, despite being asked to do so a “few times”. Dyslexia is a lifelong neurodevelopmental learning difference that affects reading, writing, and spelling.

According to British Dyslexia Association, Dyslexia is an information-processing difficulty, meaning the brain processes written and spoken language differently, but it is not an indicator of intelligence.

Tom was told he had dyslexia when he was just seven-years-old, and has particular struggles with writing and spelling. But on the Good Hang podcast, hosted by Amy Poehler, who has featured in a huge eight seasons including 142 cast appearances, and three hosting gigs, he also confirmed he dislikes reading aloud.

He said: “I’m heavily dyslexic, which is one of the reasons why – and I’d love to talk to you today about it actually – is why I’ve never done SNL. I’m just so petrified at the concept of like trying to read something… and they change.

Amy replied: “Well, I’m sure they have had many dyslexic’s host.” To which Tom said: “Totally. It’s just that like for me, I can read fine. But when I have to read out loud, it just becomes like a kind of mental block, And I can freeze.

“I’ve been really lucky that they’ve asked me a few times to do it. And the truth is, is that I’m actually just really scared at the prospect of [it]. I love the show and I love the idea of having fun and making a fool of yourself in such a fun, creative way. It’s just that thing of the cue cards.

Amy Poehler gave a frank response to Holland on to topic and said “You have to remember, there have been people that have hosted that have been fully on drugs”, which made the star laugh. Tom went on to explain how this fear impacts him in his career, especially when completing read-throughs for films.

He said: “So for me, my worst day at work is the read through. Like at the read through, I will really try and highlight everything and learn my lines ahead of time.

“So that I’m more kind of skimming it than I am.”

Holland’s parents, Dominic and Nicki Holland, moved him to a private school for better academic support after being told he had dyslexia and ADHD, and always encouraged him by telling him to just “try his best”.

In an interview, Tom said: “My spelling was really the biggest hurdle. I worked really hard at school. I didn’t do particularly well but my parents said, ‘As long as you try your best.’”

Tom Holland is engaged to actress and singer Zendaya, who met on set of Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2016. In 2021 paparazzi pictures emerged, showing Holland and Zendaya kissing, holding hands, and smiling on the red carpet together.

In late 2024 rumours began that the couple engaged, and this was only confirmed by Zendaya’s diamond engagement ring which she wore to the 2024 Golden Globes.

There have since been rumours that the couple secretly tied the knot earlier this year, when AI-generated pictures were shared on social media.

The joke extended further when the actress appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She trolled the audience by sharing a supposed “wedding clip” from her movie The Drama , only to reveal that Tom Holland’s face had been digitally superimposed over her co-star, Robert Pattinson.

While on the show she said: “While I was just out and about in real life, people were like, ‘Oh my God, your wedding photos are gorgeous’. And I was like, ‘Babe, they’re AI. They’re not real’.”
