Vijayawada: Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has said that they were making all efforts to develop the Polavaram irrigation project as a tourism hub by the commencement of Godavari Pushkaralu, scheduled to be held in June 2027, as per directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The minister held a review meeting on the progress in execution of the Polavaram project with the senior officials here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that they had completed the LIDAR (Light detection and ranging) survey in 9,900 acres to prepare the layout plan design for developing a tourism hub and noted that they were also examining a proposal to connect the Polavaram project with the national highways leading to Eluru, Kovvur and Rajamahendravaram.
He directed the officials to get the permissions for designs for taking up works for the construction of a bridge below the spillway and also to issue a schedule for taking up other work. He noted that they had already completed the earth-cum-rock-fill dam Gap-1 and Gap-2 works to the extent of 45% and 22%, respectively, and vowed efforts to complete the Polavaram Left Main Canal works by the end of August.
