Vasana Montgomery Responds After 'Love Island' Exit, Former Contestant Says, 'I Am Deeply Sorry'

Love Island USA Season 8 created headlines a few days ago when one of the contestants, Vasana Montgomery, was removed from the cast. Notably, the action was a result of two videos, in which Vasana reportedly used a racial slur on two different occasions. Vasana did not respond to the controversy at that time. The update arrived shortly after the cast members for the new season were confirmed.

While Vasana initially remained silent on the matter, she has now responded in a lengthy statement on Instagram. Keep reading to know more!

Vasana Montgomery’s removal from Love Island USA Season 8 was first revealed by Peacock while speaking to NBC News. The platform claimed that the viral clips featuring Vasana were not posted anywhere until the show’s cast members were officially confirmed.

The videos featured Vasana singing a song, and she was heard using the N-word. She allegedly did the same during an arcade game. Meanwhile, Vasana took to her Instagram Story on June 4, 2026 (ET), to clarify that the videos were recorded when she was a teenager. As of this writing, the source of those clips remains unknown. However, Vasana wrote in her statement:

“I used a racial slur. There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry. I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words. I take full responsibility for what I said and understand why it has hurt and upset people. Since then, I have grown a lot as a person and taken the time to educate myself, listen, learn, and better understand the impact that language can have.”

Vasana admitted that her growth is not going to change anything, adding that anyone deserves to be held accountable for their action. She ended by apologising once again, stating that she has always believed in becoming better through growth and learning.

Vasana Montgomery’s casting in Love Island USA Season 8 was first revealed after the social media handle of the show posted a message related to cyberbullying. They wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on May 27, 2026, that the place is not for negativity and requested everyone to be kind and positive. A day after the statement went viral, Vasana’s casting was confirmed on the show, and she was heard saying in the teaser:

“I think I am the full package. I own a business, I live alone, I have a dog. If you were to ask my friends what my type is, they’d show you the world map.”

Notably, the racial slur controversy has not happened on Love Island for the first time. Yulissa Escobar, a contestant of the previous season, was reportedly involved in a similar thing after multiple videos featured her using the N-word while speaking on podcasts. Although Yulissa exited the show after the controversy, she apologised on Instagram in June 2025, writing that her words were not intended to offend or hurt anyone.
