He has earned backing from Noel Gallagher, Pete Doherty, Sam Fender and Louis Tomlinson in recent years while building a growing audience across the UK, Europe and North America.
Noel Gallagher, who teams up with Cushin on his Where’s My Family Gone tune, has regularly praised him in a mentor type role. And he is said to have offered one word of advice – graft.
That’s exactly what Cushin continues to do. Following a successful support tour with Louis Tomlinson stateside, he has returned to play in front of American crowds on his own tour.
He previously told the Mirror how the experience with the former One Direction man has spurred him on to better things. Cushin joined Tomlinson as part of the Faith In The Future tour. The link-up came after the Out Of My System singer got in touch with Cushin following a successful performance on Sky One’s Soccer AM.
He revealed Tomlinson messaged him during the ad break to tell him he sounded great and to say well done. Cushin said at the time: “He then followed me [on X, formerly known as Twitter ] and because his fans are so passionate, I got bombarded with fan pages and all these messages.
“It was class. I didn’t really think anything of it and then when he announced his gigs, you know, it just sort of came knocking. It’s great.”
Cushin’s new single follows the success of second album Love Is For Everyone, which secured him his first UK Top 40 album. Goodbye, which was written and recorded across sessions in Newcastle, The Bahamas and Wigan captures the bigger, more expansive direction Cushin has become known for.
Speaking about the tune, he explained how proud he is of how it came together. “It’s one of those songs that changed a lot from the original idea through to the finished version,” he said.
“And I think that’s what makes it exciting. It feels big, direct and honest – and I can’t wait for people to hear it properly and experience it live.”
Goodbye is out now and tickets are on sale for December’s hometown return.
