Dylan Larkin may not be in a Red Wings uniform much longer.

Larkin requested a trade out of Detroit as issues between him and Red Wings management continue to escalate after the team missed the postseason for the 10th straight season.

The 29-year-old center and U.S. Olympic gold medalist is in the middle a long-term deal that averages $8.7 million per year through the 2030-31 season. He also has a no-trade clause for the next two seasons, meaning his control of the situation doesn’t change on July 1.

Drafted 15th overall by the Red Wings in 2014, Larkin has blossomed into a key offensive contributor for the team, scoring 30 or more goals in each of the last five seasons. His 34 goals this season were tied for 25th in the league.

Across his 11 years in the Motor City, Larkin has notched 276 goals and 643 points in 808 games. He’s also appeared in All-Star games in 2016, 2022 and 2023.

Despite his success, Larkin’s played a full 82 games in his career just twice due to injuries, including a lower-body injury that sidelined him for two weeks this year.

While Detroit made the playoffs in Larkin’s first season, it lost in the first round and hasn’t returned since.

That’s not to say the Red Wings haven’t been close to punching their ticket back to the postseason with Larkin.

On Jan. 24 this season, Detroit was tied for first in the Eastern Conference and had a 12-point cushion for a playoff spot before collapsing late and finishing 41-31-10 and sixth in the Atlantic Division.

Larkin also publicly criticized Red Wings management at the 2025 trade deadline for how inactive they were during a playoff push. Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman then dismissed rumors about a rift between Larkin and the team.

According to Sportsnet, nobody would comment on Larkin’s situation including himself, Yzerman and Larkin’s agent Pat Brisson.
