Pop star Anastacia, 57, has always been open about her health struggles after being diagnosed with breast cancer twice – first at the age of 34 and again at 45

Anastacia has given a health update more than two decades after she was first diagnosed with cancer. The pop star was given the devastating news that she had breast cancer at the age of 34 back in January 2003, following a routine mammogram.

She went on to make a full recovery after being treated with surgery and radiotherapy. But a decade later, aged 45, she was told her breast cancer had returned. After cancelling her European tour to focus on her health, she underwent a double mastectomy in the hope it would prevent the cancer from coming back again.

Back in 2013, the I’m Outta Love singer told fans she was “in the final stages of recovery” following the operation and was “ready to start the next chapter” after what she described as an “intense journey”.

Now the star – who also had huge hits with songs like One Day In Your Life and Left Outside Alone – has spoken out about her health in a new interview ahead of a string of UK dates for her 25th anniversary tour celebrating her debut hit album, Not That Kind.

Appearing as a guest on Heart Breakfast radio, Anastacia told hosts Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman that she was “very proud” to have had cancer twice – as it means she can “spread more attention and information” about the disease.

She shared: “I’m very proud of both, because that means that I got to even spread more attention and information about what’s happening 10 years after the first cancer.”

Asked how she is doing now, the US singer revealed she had been cancer-free since her last surgery and said: “I’m really well now, yeah! I would say my cancer is great.”

Thanks to medical advances, she said “cancer isn’t really the scary word it used to be – because early detection is there”. That was how her cancers were found both time she received a diagnosis.

But the star said there were other health issues she continued to battle, as she added: “My Crohn’s is still there, you know, but that’s just life, it will always be there.”

After her first diagnosis more than two decades ago, she set up the Anastacia Fund in order to raise awareness of breast cancer amongst young women. In an exclusive interview with the Mirror last year, the star said she “will do it forever and ever”.

The vocal powerhouse went on to add that each day, she hopes to help people overcome their dark periods and help find “goodness in something when things are going negative.”

She said: “I want to help people know that even if you have cancer, even if you have Crohn’s disease, the more you let it occupy your thoughts on a regular basis, you are not living in the moment.”

Allowing the dark periods to consume your mind is an “unfair game,” she said, while explaining: “What I try to do is just make a difference in other people’s lives. Try to give them hope and faith that what you’re going through is not forever. There’s ebbs and flows, just allow your good day to be ok. If the bad day comes, don’t shun it; it probably needs to happen.”

The next UK leg of Anastacia’s 2026 NTK Tour will see her play the Isle of Wight Festival on June 18 and again on June 20, followed by gigs in Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff, London and Brighton.
