Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a special enforcement drive against online pharmacies across the state on June 6, inspecting 166 medical shops to ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

According to the DCA, 159 of the inspected shops were linked to online medicine delivery services, including licensed premises of online pharmacy operators and their partner pharmacies. The remaining seven shops were associated with online business-to-business platforms such as IndiaMART.

Officials identified several irregularities during the inspections, including failure to maintain or produce sales bills, non-maintenance of prescription drug and Schedule H1 registers, absence of purchase invoices, dispensing prescription medicines without valid prescriptions from registered medical practitioners, and sale of medicines without the supervision of registered pharmacists.

The DCA also found deficiencies in maintaining copies of sales and purchase records.

Following the inspections, Show Cause Notices were issued to 41 medical shops linked to online pharmacy operations across Telangana. Authorities said further action would be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and related rules.

The DCA reiterated that all medical shops, including those associated with online platforms, must strictly comply with statutory requirements and warned that violations would invite stringent action under the law.
