Famous Malayalam actor Salim Kumar’s passing left not just his family but the industry and his fans in pain after his shocking passing. On June 7, 2026, he was cremated with State Honours at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam district in Kerala. However, his son was left hurt at the funeral by the behaviour of the photographers stationed outside his home to try to get footage of the same.
Salim Kumar’s son, Chandu, lashed out at photographers
During Salim Khan’s last rites, which were attended by family members, colleagues, political leaders and his fans, his elder son, Chandu, lost his calm at the time of intense emotions. In the clips that have surfaced on the internet, Chandu was seen blasting at the crowd of photographers and demanded them to step back and let the family have the privacy to mourn the demise of their loved one.

It seems like the way photographers acted as the family members and friends gathered to pay their last respects became questionable. In times of crisis and heartbreak, putting a camera in a person’s face is not justified and leaves many heartbroken. The last rites were attended by Meera Jasmine, Sandeep Pradeep and more as they paid tribute to Salim Kumar.

Salim Kumar’s death
Salim Kumar’s passing has left many in shock. He died on June 6, 2026, and actor and politician, Vivek Gopan shared an emotional post. He shared that Salim’s laughter and tears of Malayalam cinema. He added that Salim’s simple comedy and the depth of his serious roles have left him immortal. He wrote:
“Salim Kumar was the laughter and the tears of Malayalam cinema. An artist who made people laugh, made them think, and spoke the truths of life has today bid farewell to us. Through the simplicity of his comedy and the depth of his serious roles, he earned an immortal place in the hearts of Malayalis. The loss of this great artist is an irreparable one for Malayalam cinema. I pray that his soul attains eternal peace in the presence of God. May God grant strength to his grieving family and loved ones to endure this loss. Salim Kumar will live on forever in our memories.”

The Kerala government also paid its respect and, with profound grief, talked about the acclaimed actor’s death. For those who don’t know, Salim won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in Adaminte Makan Abu and the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for Achanurangatha Veedu.

Salim Kumar’s funeral started after the District Collector paid his respect by placing a wreath on the mortal remains of Salim Kumar on behalf of the Government of Kerala, while the District Police Chief made arrangements for police honours. Talking about Salim Kumar’s death, a medical bulletin by the hospital revealed that Salim Kumar suffered a cardiac arrest. As per reports, the Malayalam actor had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He suffered from chronic kidney disease on maintenance haemodialysis. The medical bulletin could be read as:
“He was initiated on ventilator support, antibiotics, dialysis and other life-saving measures. During the hospital stay, he suffered a cardiac arrest and, despite maximum possible resuscitative measures, could not be revived.”
