Gawn looks sore as Melbourne miss goal

By Michael Gleeson and Hannah Kennelly

Max Gawn is badly favouring his left shoulder. He couldn’t lift his arm in that marking contest with Jack Buller who outmarked him and kicked the first goal of the last quarter.

Moments after Buller’s major, Caleb Windsor boots one through. However, the umpire reviews it and it’s deemed a behind.

The umpires check in with the ARC and confirms the ball hit the post.

It doesn’t hugely matter because Bayley Fritsch boots one minutes later.

Q4 begin; Will Demons or Pies come out on top?

By Hannah Kennelly

That’s the siren and the thousands of fans at the MCG cheer and roar. It’s been a week of upsets and close games and this Monday thriller looks to be no different.

However, Collingwood would ideally like their winning margin to not go down to the wire. A superb Jack Buller opens the final quarter with a goal (his second major for the afternoon) to push the Pies ahead.

Buller takes fantastic contested mark

By Hannah Kennelly

Both teams are showing no signs of relenting.

A goal from Jack Buller, after he marked deep inside 50, put the Pies further in front, but Harvey Langford countered with one of his own.

Six players fines from Sunday-night match

By Greg Dundas

Another $6000 will go into the kitty of AFL fines after last night’s game between Carlton and Essendon.

Three players – Blues pair Patrick Cripps and George Hewett and Bomber Sullivan Robey – were today fined by the match review officer for making careless contact with an umpire in the second quarter.

Carlton’s Ben Ainsworth and Essendon’s Lachie Blakiston were both fined for instigating a melee in the third quarter, and Bomber Jacob Farrow copped a penalty for misconduct.

Assuming all the players accept the penalty imposed on them, they will each be stung $1000, money which is then invested by the league in medical research to understand and prevent head trauma in the sport.

No fines or suspensions were issued from Sunday’s game between Sydney and St Kilda.
