Actress Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, has opened up about suffering a “breakdown” over her latest milestone birthday and hinted at a butter custody battle with ex-husband Joe Jonas
Sophie Turner has a “mini-breakdown” when she turned 30. The actress, known for her roles in Game of Thrones, X-Men and Joan, hit the milestone in February, and it all came less than two years after she split from Disney Channel star Joe Jonas.
The actress, who will also star as Lara Croft in an upcoming Tomb Raider series, recently filmed a role she played in a film called Trust where she explained it was about a woman who had to “protect her child” amid a turbulent personal life.
Sophie, who has Willa, five, and three-year-old Delphine with Joe, said: “I did a movie called Trust about a girl who had to go into hiding because she was being manipulated by this man she had a baby with and needed to protect her child – she had personal things to process and it felt like an opportunity for me to do that too.”
Despite her worries about hitting the big 3-0, Sophie managed to celebrate with friends and admitted that things are looking optimistic now.
Speaking to The Telegraph, she explained: “All my best friends are my age and we went to school together and we’re having a year of 30th birthdays. We’re just so happy to be out of the mess of our 20s. Each of us has had a mini-breakdown but we all feel really positive now. I was very ready to leave that decade of my life behind.”
Joe, 36, shot to fame in the late 2000s as part of The Jonas Brothers with siblings Nick and Kevin and enjoyed success touring with Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana before going on to appear opposite Demi Lovato in Camp Rock,. Just days ago, he said he was “grateful” for Sophie, who he shares the custody of his two daughters with.
Speaking to his brothers Kevin and Nick on their podcast Hey Jonas, the Burnin’ Up singer said: “I’m a single dad and I co-parent with my children’s mother. He acknowledged that there are a lot of people in a similar “situation” and continued: “I’m grateful that I have a co-parent that I can balance even the bad days.”
“I think being able to have good people around me to kind of help me navigate it is really special.” The Cake By The Ocean singer went on to say his children had given him “purpose” in life again.
“They’ve really given me the reason to be alive, I would say,” Joe said. “I think, in my saddest moments, I’m able to be reminded quickly that a hug from them can solve the world’s problems.”
The couple separated in 2023, after four years of marriage. At the time, they released a joint statement, saying they “mutually decided” to end the marriage. The divorce was finalised in September 2024, after a bitter custody battle in which Sophie sued Joe and accused him of withholding her daughters passports so that they could not return to England with her.
He denied the allegations and his representatives said the lawsuit was a “harsh legal position” that contravened the “amicable co-parenting set up” they’d put in place. The actress later dropped the lawsuit and, based on his recent words, their co-parenting relationship appears to be on better terms.
As well as being single parents, both Sophie and Joe appear to have found love again post-divorce. The Jonas Brothers star was linked to model to Tatiana Gabriela in January of this year and the two have since gone public. Meanwhile, Sophie has most recently been linked to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. After dating Peregrine Pearson in following her divorce, she was said to be dating singer Chris in November 2025, though Sophie has since confirmed that she is single again.
