HYDERABAD: The state transport department is set to enforce strict action against vehicles violating norms, with 10 special enforcement teams and two state‑level squads intensifying inspection operations across the state.
Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to step up enforcement and seize vehicles found violating regulations. He ordered the seizure of any vehicle transporting students beyond permitted capacity and warned of strict action against educational institutions operating school buses without valid fitness certificates.
A high‑level meeting held on Monday was attended by special chief secretary Vikas Raj, transport commissioner Ilambarithi, additional transport commissioner Ramesh and others. Recalling the government’s earlier announcement to strengthen enforcement following the abolition of check‑posts, the Minister advised officials to utilise existing staff more effectively to increase inspection frequency.
Speaking at the meeting, Prabhakar said, “Conduct widespread inspections statewide, focusing specifically on overloaded vehicles, those with unpaid quarterly taxes, and vehicles lacking fitness certificates. Seize the violating vehicles if necessary.”
Emphasising student safety, he made it clear that school buses and mini‑vans must possess valid fitness certificates. He directed officials to pay special attention to vehicles from other states plying without paying required taxes. Heavy fines should be imposed on vehicle owners failing to pay quarterly taxes, and vehicles seized if necessary.
The minister also stressed passenger safety, stating that violations by sleeper buses must not be tolerated and strict action should be taken immediately upon detection.
