Tamil Filmmaker Bharathiraja Dies at 84

Bharathiraja made his directorial debut with 16 Vayathinile in 1977, a landmark film that changed the landscape of Tamil cinema. He followed it up with acclaimed works such as Kizhake Pogum Rail, Sigappu Rojakkal, Alaigal Oivathillai, Kaadhal Oviyam and Mudhal Mariyathai, among many others.

Apart from directing, Bharathiraja also enjoyed a successful acting career. His most recent appearance was in Mohanlal’s Thudarum, while his last directorial work was the episode Paravai Kootil Vaazhum Maangal from the anthology series Modern Love Chennai.
