Hyderabad: More skeletons are likely to tumble out of Roads and Buildings Engineer-in-Chief J Mohan Naik’s closet as the sleuths of Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) are yet to trace his original property documents.
“We could not trace the original documents related to Naik’s properties during yesterday’s raids. He might have hid the documents elsewhere,” an ACB official privy to the investigation told Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday.
However, the preliminary investigation revealed that he purchased all the properties in the name of benamis as he used to collect rents from them, the official said, adding that the investigation would be widened further from Thursday onwards.
During the searches conducted at over 15 places on Tuesday, the ACB found several property documents including five agricultural land parcels admeasuring 19.38 acres valued at approximately Rs.82.89 lakh at Mullangi village in Dichpally mandal of Nizamabad district.
This is in addition to seven flats – three flats at Kompally and four flats at Gachibowli, valued at approximately Rs.7.34 crore, one triplex villa at Miyapur valued at approximately Rs.2.50 crore and a newly constructed house at Kukatpally costing Rs. Rs.62.14 lakh.
An advance amount of Rs.1 crore has been paid towards the purchase of a newly constructed villa at Nizamabad. The market value of these properties is expected to be much higher than the official value, officials said.
The ACB officials detected these properties apart from 2,500 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs.2 crore.
The official further stated that Naik was produced before the special court for ACB cases on Wednesday morning after arresting him. The court remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.
