With less than 2 days left to start for the World Cup 2026, the buzz in the air for the premium tournament is electrifying. Serving as an incredible stage for more than 1200 players, this World Cup is proving to be unmistakable, giving opportunities for new players to get a jumpstart to their football career. As the largest tournament to date, 48 different teams will look to give an opportunity to their squad, playing a minimum of 3 group matches.

Not a feat unknown in the previous World Cups, players have found themselves bagging a significant transfer fee to major clubs. Notable players such as James Rodriguez from Colombia in 2018 and Enzo Fernandes from Argentina in 2022 have taken the opportunity of the World Cup to put a price tag on either side of 100 million euros to Champions League teams. Young stars will look forward to this tournament, hoping to repeat, recreate and even better previous breakout performances.
Some of the young stars to look towards this year are:

Endrick

Perhaps the most talked about young player at Real Madrid before he found a loan in France as he lost minutes and form with the first team under Xabi Alonso. Regaining that form with Lyon, he gained a spot under Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil at the World Cup. What could well be his breakthrough season, Real Madrid might find it difficult to hold onto him after the tournament with tough competition in the lineup and a possible high price tag.
What was once a forgotten wonderkid, Endrick has pulled it back under immense pressure with his game time at Lyon and a stellar showing against Croatia in a friendly, looking likely to be a major player for Brazil’s squad at the World Cup. After a year’s worth of hard work, dedication, and maturity, he is expected to deliver on the biggest stage this year, to help mount a successful World Cup campaign.
Nico O’Reilly
The 21-year-old English player at Manchester City seems to be the solution to England’s defensive problems at Left-Back. After a successful season under Pep Guardiola, O’Reilly has proved himself on the big stage, owning the left-back position and being a major driving force for a successful domestic campaign for City.
With flexibility to his role under Guardiola, O’Reilly has found himself playing in the midfield as well, giving his best performances. Thomas Tuchel would certainly look to utilise the flex spot and creative abilities of Nico O’Reilly to support what are a daunting attack and an impressive midfield. Playing a major role at Man City, a breakthrough season could prove a tough keep for City with major clubs vying for his signature.
Luka Vuskovic
Croatian youngster Luka Vuskovic found himself loaned out to Hamburg SV from Tottenham Spurs this season. As a 19-year-old, he has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe, looking towards a huge performance at the World Cup. Touted to be the centre of Croatian defence by the current captain, Luka Modric, and national team coach, Zlatko Dalic, he promises a strong future for the national team.
He is also a set-piece threat, scoring the most goals of any defender in the Bundesliga, bringing goal threat and excellent defence to the World Cup for Croatia. A breakthrough performance here could fetch Spurs significant funds for a comeback season, or lead Spurs to a successful campaign as the administration squashes any transfer rumours.
Yan Diomande
19-year-old Yan Diomande has proven to be a noteworthy competitor in Germany. Successfully dribbling past the most players in the Bundesliga, his dribbling skills have 12 goals and 8 assists to support an impressive resume. Already having played all but 1 match in the AFCON where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals, he already has international experience that he will look to put to good use on the biggest stage.
Having already trained in a specialist athletic academy in Florida, when trials at Premier League teams and Rangers in Scotland didn’t materialize to a spot on the squad, he eventually found himself at RB Leipzig, finding team minutes and goals and assists to support that. Teams now rumoured to compete for his signature will find it even more difficult if Yan puts in a breakthrough performance this year.
Ibrahim Mbaye
A breakout star in an already overstuffed Paris Saint-Germain attack, Mbaye switched nationalities to Senegal and found team minutes, putting in an impressive performance in the AFCON. With the ability to play on both flanks and proven mettle on the International stage, Mbaye is set on the edge of a breakthrough season.
With interest already acquired from Premier League teams, he is considered to leave PSG in favour of more team minutes in top leagues. The World Cup becomes the biggest stage for Mbaye to show his skills and talent, gaining attention from top clubs before the transfer market opens up.
