David Harbour has had his say on ex-wife Lily Allen’s latest album – and it’s safe to say he doesn’t seem impressed. The actor and singer split separated in late 2024 and confirmed their breakup in February 2025.
The split appears to have been a bitter one and Lily turned her thoughts into her new critically acclaimed record West End Girl. But the Stranger Things star has branded it “weird“.
In the album, Lily sings about extramarital activity and emotional manipulation. The lyrics supposedly tell the story of a break-up with some fictional elements thrown in. Now David has insisted: “It wasn’t my experience.”
Speaking to Variety, he said: “‘It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that. I can’t really say that much more, because it’s my private life.”
The star went on: “In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.
“Stories are complex, and that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience.”
While Lily admits there is “fact and fiction” in her latest lyrics, she told fans not to take them as gospel. And it’s not the only dig she has had at her former husband.
In March, she wore a gown made of receipts for things her partner allegedly bought other women. Lily unveiled the look during her performance of the track 4Chan Stan.
In the song, Lily sings about discovering a partner’s infidelity. And for her performance, she wrapped herself fabric printed with lyrics and receipts. Lily belted out the track on stage and the dress unfolded.
Among the alleged purchases were receipts from tequila bars and the luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. The latter is a direct nod to one of her recent lyrics, which sees her sing: “Never been Bergdorf’s, but you took someone shopping there on May 24. You bought her a handbag. It wasn’t cheap. I was in London. Probably asleep.”
Lily and David first met on the exclusive dating app Raya before marrying in Vegas in 2020, But four years later they were going their separate ways following allegations of infidelity.
Following her split, she confirmed she is dating Jonah Freud. The star is 12 years her junior and the couple were recently spotted enjoying a romantic break in Rome recently.
