Matt Cornett Got Advice From Old Roommate, Gavin Casalegno After Landing Role In ‘Every Year After’

Prime Video recently brought summer romance to the small screens with its original series, Every Year After. The series is based on Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel, Every Summer After, and it premiered on June 10, 2026. The series features Sadie Soverall as ‘Percy Fraser’ and Matt Cornett as ‘Sam Florek’ in the lead roles. 

With the release of the series, the audience has been left in awe, as the portrayals of each of the actors were so authentic that it almost felt like a real incident rather than a fictional one. To mention, the characters and events here are not based on real life, but some parts were inspired by the same. Well, as the audience has been in utter awe of the series, let’s have a look at what the lead Matt Cornett had to say about this, since he recently revealed getting advice from one of his old roommates about his part in the series. 

Matt Cornett got advice from Gavin Casalegno about his role in Every Year After

Matt Cornett, while appearing on the Today show on June 10, 2026, revealed that he and Gavin Casalegno, who is known for his role in another Netflix adaptation, Summer I Turned Pretty, used to share a room. Matt said that they were roommates before he got into the series, Summer I Turned Pretty. Well, Matt and Gavin met over lunch, and the former revealed to the latter that he is up for the show, Every Year After.

To this, Gavin said that book fans are intense and incredible, so Matt needs to be prepared to give it his all. Speaking of the book fans, Matt said that the fans know their books and more than that, they know ‘Sam’ (his character) better than him, so that’s something he’s scared of. Matt could be quoted as saying:

“Gavin and I have been friends for quite a long time. We lived together before he got ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty.’ When I told him I was doing this show, we actually were at lunch one day. I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m doing this next Amazon book adaptation, summer show.’ He was like, ‘Get ready, the book fans are incredible, and they are intense.”

Matt Cornett, the 28-year-old American actor, found his passion for acting at a very young age, and to pursue the same, he moved to Los Angeles. He initially was seen in several shows, including Bella, Bulldogs, The Goldbergs, Life in Pieces and Southland. He also starred in High School Musical: The Musical from 2019 to 2023, where he was seen as ‘E.J. Caswell’. He was also seen as ‘A Lan’ in Zombie 3. His recent massive role came with Every Year After, which is adapted from the bestselling novel Every Summer After.

The actor grabbed much attention with his roles in his previous projects, and over the years, he moved into much more emotionally grounded and complex characters, with the lead spot. And to be honest, fans have been in utter awe of Matt’s role in the series. ‘Sam Florek’ was seen in the series in two timelines, one in his teen years, when he developed feelings for ‘Percy’. Eventually, the two dated and brokeup followed by a tragedy, and this was followed by a 10-year-long radio silence between the duo. A decade-long jump showed ‘Sam’ as a cardiologist, and later had to face ‘Percy’ again when she came back to the town and faced the unresolved past.
