KADAPA: Preparations are underway to start construction of the proposed steel plant in Kadapa district, collector Dr Sreedhar Cherukuri said on Thursday.

Accompanied by Jammalamadugu MLA C. Adinarayana Reddy and representatives of the JSW Group, Dr Sreedhar inspected the project site at Sunnapurallapalle village in Jammalamadugu constituency, where the foundation stone had been laid earlier.

The collector said the steel plant with an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes is proposed to be established over 3,500 acres with an investment of ₹8,800 crore. Although the foundation stone had been laid nearly three years ago, construction work has not commenced.

Dr Sreedhar expressed confidence that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, would now take steps to begin the project and fulfil the long-pending aspirations of local residents.

The collector held discussions with JSW Group representatives on land allocation, earlier agreements with the Jindal Group, infrastructure requirements, and other issues related to the project.

Dr Sreedhar said arrangements are being made for the Chief Minister to lay the foundation stone for the project. In this regard, he reviewed the condition of two helipads at the site and other logistical arrangements for the proposed visit of Chandrababu Naidu.

According to officials, the steel plant project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for local youth and contribute to industrial development in the region.

Those present on the occasion included senior JSW officials Rajesh Puri, Yogesh Bedi, and Purushottam Prasad.
