A young girl has been rescued after she was spotted dangling from a window ledge above a busy shop – with the terrifying footage going viral online.
The small child, dressed in a pink jacket and brown pants, was captured dangling above a pawnbrokers in East London as horrified onlookers gather beneath her.
The child appears to be desperately trying to pull herself to safety as she hangs precariously from the second-story window ledge.
Passers-by filmed as a crowd gathers on the street below, with people looking on helplessly and waiting for help to arrive, one local London outlet reported.
At one stage, an unknown woman stricken with panic emerges from a lower window and calls out to the youngster dangling above.
Eventually help arrived, with footage capturing the dramatic rescue, The Sun reports.
A topless man, wearing just a pair of grey pants, can be seen working alongside a police officer, with both positioning themselves directly underneath the child.
Eventually her grip gives way, prompting audible gasps from the crowd below.
The child then plunges from the ledge, but the shirtless man – with the help of the officer – manages to catch her as she falls.
Once safely in his arms, the child is passed back through the lower window where the woman, presumably her mother, had been watching on – with the waiting crowd applauding below.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Ilford High Road at 3:23 pm on Tuesday, June 9, following concerns for the safety of a child climbing onto a window ledge.”
“The girl was brought to safety by 3:32 pm by an attending officer and member of the public.”
“She did not receive any injuries.”
No injuries were reported, and the child escaped unharmed following the terrifying incident.
The heart-stopping footage has since captured the attention of viewers online, with many expressing relief that the young girl escaped without any injuries.
“It takes a village,” remarked one, referring to the old adage that childcare requires more than just the parents.
“Thank God, I was so worried for a minute,” said another.
As one wrote: “So glad she is safe, and those men were there!”
