Sara Cox shared pictures of her leaving party with colleagues from her BBC Radio 2’s drivetime show before replacing Scott Mills on breakfast
BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox was all smiles as she enjoyed her farewell lunch with her colleagues on the drivetime show, before she replaces Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2 breakfast show.
Dressed casually in a white cardigan, the 51 year old TV and radio presenter appeared to be enjoying the celebrations at a Devonshire pub with her pals and soon to be former colleagues.
Taking to social media Sara marked her departure with a series of snaps including ones of her sat in the studio smiling broadly for the camera with her work pals. She captioned the post saying: “7 and a half years of silliness all wrapped up with some Pato Banton and a booze free Guinness.”
She added: “Thank you for listening to teatime @bbcradio2 – the larking about & general daftness will continue soon on The Sara Cox Breakfast Show…. (Please come with me!)”
It’s thought Sara will now enjoy a few weeks off before taking her lucrative new job next month. In April it was announced that Sara was set to take over from Scott who was sacked from the top job in March following allegations made about his personal conduct.
At the time, speculation was rife over who was to replace the star, who also hosted at the Eurovision Song Contest for the BBC.
But an insider told The Sun that Sara was the obvious choice. They said: “Sara has been handed the top job and it’s official, she is the new host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.”
The source continued: “This is something the BBC have always had lined up for her and she could not be more excited to take on the role.”
Scott was axed from the broadcaster after fresh information about a police investigation from 2018 emerged.
Along with his radio position, Scott was also forced to step down from his role on a spin off podcast of Race Across The World, a show he was crowned winner of on the celebrity version in 2024.
Addressing her new role, Sara said: “There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed. It’s been a dream to host the Breakfast Show since I joined Radio 2 and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me.”
She went on to say: “I’ve had the most glorious seven years of my career on Teatime so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests. I honestly can’t wait to wake the nation up with the biggest most fun breakfast show ever.”
Back in May it was reported that Scott was set to take legal action against the BBC, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The publication claimed that the TV and radio personality believed he was wrongly sacked and it was further reported that his legal team at the law firm Level Law were in contacting with the broadcaster at that time.
