Meet Ringo Starr’s Wife, Barbara Bach, First Met On The Set Of ‘Caveman’, Was Not A Huge Beatles Fan

Ringo Starr is currently hogging the spotlight after his recent concert in San Jose, California. What surprised fans the most was the former Beatles drummer’s appearance. Many took to social media to comment how, even though Ringo is 85 years old at present, he still looks as if he were 45. Other fans believed that the secret to Ringo’s youthful energy and appearance is that he is doing what he loves. Well, amid the buzz about his appearance, the focus has also shifted to Ringo’s personal life, especially his wife, Barbara Bach.

According to reports, Ringo Starr and his wife, Barbara Bach, met for the first time in 1980 when they were cast as love interests in the film, Caveman. While they were both in relationships with different people at the time, Ringo later confessed that he had been attracted to Barbara from the moment she showed up at the airport in LA. During a 1981 interview, Barbara claimed that when she and Ringo fell in love with one another, they fell hard. She also made it clear that they did not get into a relationship before Caveman ended. She was quoted as saying:

“A lot of garbage has been written about us, none of it interesting. The truth is, we weren’t together until the very end of Caveman. Working, we got along fine, but we each had other people, our respective friends. Then, all of a sudden, within a week — the last week of shooting — it just happened. We changed from friendly love to being in love.”

Barbara Bach was not a huge fan of the Beatles 

Even before they properly connected, Barbara Bach and Ringo Starr actually crossed paths way earlier when she saw The Beatles play at New York’s Shea Stadium in 1965. She had reportedly gone there with her sister, Marjorie, and her sister’s husband, Joe Walsh, who was also the guitarist for the Eagles. But despite attending the legendary Shea Stadium concert, Barbara revealed in a 1981 interview that she had only gone because her sister liked the band. She, on the other hand, preferred Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, and the Rolling Stones.

Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach tied the knot on April 27, 1981, in London. Their wedding was attended by around 70 guests in addition to former Beatles members, McCartney and Harrison. It is worth noting that this made for a rather bittersweet reunion, as the wedding happened just months after John Lennon was killed. But they still managed to make the most out of the moment, with McCartney and Harrison treating the guests to an impromptu performance. Reportedly, McCartney was on the piano, Harrison played the guitar, and Ringo drummed on an ice bucket. 

Barbara Bach and Ringo Starr went to rehab together

In 1988, Barbara Bach and Ringo Starr both sought treatment at the Sierra Tucson Rehabilitation Clinic.  According to reports, after they left rehab, their lives were completely changed. For instance, Barbara and Ringo became vegetarians and began supporting several organisations whose purpose was to help those struggling with substance addiction. 

Barbara Bach and Ringo Starr have been married for over four decades 

It has been over 40 years since Barbara and Ringo got together. During a 2015 interview, the couple opened up about their decades-long romance. Barbara said that the only secret to their relationship was “I love the man, and that’s it.” Meanwhile, Ringo added:

“There’s no escape … I think I love Barbara as much [today] as I did [when we met] — and I’m beyond blessed that she loves me and we’re still together.”
