BJP Activates Shakti Kendras for Voter Revision

Adilabad: The BJP has activated its ‘Shakti Kendras’, constituted earlier to strengthen the party at booth level in addition to booth level agents (BLAs), and they are now actively monitoring the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.

It is proving a tough time for migrant voters, who must defend their votes under SIR as per the 2002 voters list. The Shakti Kendras check for ‘illegal voters’, if any, in the rolls with the help of their booth‑level committees.

On the other hand, Congress and BRS have also activated their BLAs to ensure their sympathisers’ votes are included in the electoral roll. Political parties appoint BLAs for each booth, while the district administration appoints booth-level officers (BLOs). The Congress is conducting training for BLAs in all Assembly constituencies, with TPCC appointing trainers for the programme.

There are 17 mandals and one municipality in Adilabad district, each with the BJP Shakti Kendras comprising 4‑5 polling booths. These Kendras earlier played an active role in the party membership drive at booth level in villages and urban areas. Party Assembly segment and parliamentary conveners have formed more than 608 Shakti Kendras in the Adilabad Lok Sabha constituency.

The BJP high command has cross‑checked information submitted by local leaders about Shakti Kendras and booth committees, finding that some in‑charges did not respond when contacted, while some phone numbers provided were not working. To strengthen the Shakti Kendras and booth committees, convenors have been appointed for each Assembly and Parliamentary constituency, while ‘Vistaraks’ have been appointed from the RSS side.

As part of the Mahajan Sampark Abhiyan, BJP has focused on strengthening booth‑level committees where it was weak. Each member of a booth committee meets 20 families under his polling booth, involves them in party activities and explains party programmes.

A senior BJP leader in Adilabad, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “We have constituted Shakti Kendras, and they are now actively monitoring the SIR process at booth level as per party line.”

Adilabad DCC president Naresh Jadhav said it is high time voters defend their votes under SIR by providing proof, adding that migrant voters face a tough time. He said supervisors are being appointed for every ten polling booths and coordinators for each Assembly constituency to monitor the process.

He noted that 95,687 electors are unmapped out of 2,51,601 in Adilabad Assembly Constituency, while 34,090 electors are unmapped out of 2,16,324 in Boath Assembly Constituency. In Adilabad, 69,502 electors were found with anomalies among the mapped voters, as part of the SIR process being conducted by the Election Commission of India.
