The former Superman and Enola Holmes star looked incredible on the second day at Royal Ascot, and fans all said the same thing when he was interviewed on social media
Superman star Henry Cavill visited Royal Ascot for the first time this week – and everyone said the same thing when they saw how incredible he looked. The Man of Steel and Enola Holmes star attended the second day of world-famous racing fixture on Thursday, looking dapper in a stunning suit, complimented by a top hat and tails.
In a video posted on Ascot’s official Instagram account, the 43-year-old star described his experience as “absolutely amazing”. He was there on the same day as a number of members of the Royal Family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence.
“This is my first time coming to Royal Ascot, and what a day to come,” Henry said. Asked about being on the parade ring with the Royal Family, he continued: “It was amazing. I saw them from a distance, I wasn’t with them. I was in the ring with them, but not with them. It was an amazing experience.
“I did get to ring the bell today though, which I think I may have rang too hard.” The Parade Ring Bell at Royal Ascot is rung to signal to jockeys to mount their horses and head to the track in preparation for a race.
And explaining his latest project, a remake of 80s action classic Highlander which has just finished filming, he said: “I think everyone’s going to enjoy it. All the things that people loved from the 80s movie are in there, and all the things that people maybe might squint at in this era are enhanced upon.”
Reacting to the video, fans all said the same thing. One wrote: “That’s my choice for Mr Bond and forever Superman!” Another wrote: “Make him James Bond already.” And someone else said: “James Bond incarnate!”
Henry has long been touted as a potential new 007, and reportedly narrowly missed out to Daniel Craig when 2006’s Casino Royale was being cast. Referencing an iconic line from Highlander, another fan said: “There can be only one. One Superman, One Highlander, One Bond. And Henry Cavill is all of them.”
And someone else replied: “When he’s describing Highlander his voice is so soothing. He’d be a great storyteller for audio books in his semi-retirement. He needs to do Bond first! Fits the profile even more as a silver fox.”
What do we know about the next James Bond film?
Details remain scant about 007’s next big-screen outing, almost five years since Daniel Craig’s final appearance in No Time To Die. Although we know the next movie, the first to be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, will be directed by Denis Villeneuve – the man behind the Dune films – more information has been kept firmly under wraps.
The Canadian director is currently finishing off the final part of his Dune trilogy, to be released in December, after which he is expected to begin work on 007’s next outing in earnest. And the question on everyone’s lips is, who will pick up the Walther PPK and become the next actor to take on the iconic role?
A number of names have been thrown into the ring, including Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, Rocketman’s Taron Egerton, and Euphoria star Jacob Elordi.
Although Sir Idris Elba has long been touted by fans as a possible new 007 – which would make him the first black actor to take up the role – the 53-year-old recently revealed he wasn’t in the running, saying Amazon is “going younger” in the search for the new lead.
“I wish them all the luck in the world,” he told People. “I can’t wait – it’s going to be amazing.”
However, the London-born Masters of the Universe star has said he would be open to playing a villain in the next Bond film. “Yeah, I mean 100 per cent,” he said. “I mean Bond is such an iconic franchise. Why not? You know, like you could do the whole stroking cats [thing].” Filming is expected to start next year, with the film to be released in 2028.
