Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has not been included in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against England, despite scoring a blistering 94 for India A against Sri Lanka.

The 15-year-old opened the batting for India A, and finished on a score of 94 from 29, with a strike rate of over 300 in the 50-over game – a record-low balls faced to reach that total in a List A 50-over game.

However, he has not been selected for the first team’s ODI squad for their tour of England this summer. The BCCI confirmed the squad earlier on Sunday.

Sooryavanshi has, though, been included in the T20 squad for the England and Ireland games.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi racked up an incredible 96 runs after a batting masterclass during the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans.

The Rajasthan Royals opener enters the summer off the back of a stunning Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign in which he finished top of the batting charts with 776 runs and broke Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in a season.

Sooryavanshi became the youngest player in the league’s history, at 13, to be bought at the IPL auction in 2024 – for £105,000 – and went on to become the first player to take home the Most Valuable Player and Emerging Player awards in the same IPL season.

Shubman Gill captains India for the tour, with the format’s second highest all-time run scorer Virat Kohli also selected after missing out on India’s latest ODI against Afghanistan with injury.

Opener Yashavi Jaiswal – who scored an unbeaten 110 as India cruised to a nine-wicket win on Saturday – misses out, only being named as a potential injury replacement for Kohli.

Jasprit Bumrah returns to the squad after a four-year absence at 50-over level as the T20 world champions build towards the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
