Hyderabad: Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) received donations worth over ₹1.03 crore during its 26th Foundation Day celebrations held on Sunday. The largest contribution came from US‑based NRI Polavarapu Madhava Rao, whose family handed over a cheque for ₹1 crore to hospital chairman Nandamuri Balakrishna.
Other donors included Jilayat Ghouse Inayat from Anantapur and Sudhakar Naidu from Kurnool, who gave ₹1 lakh each, while Singarayam Ranjith Kumar from Khammam donated ₹50,000 towards patient welfare and hospital development.
The event was attended by hospital management, doctors, nursing and paramedical staff, and employees. Trust Board members Dr Raghava Rao Polavarapu, Dr Nori Dattatreyudu, J.S.R. Prasad and Dr T.S. Rao were present.
Institute medical director Dr T.S. Rao highlighted the institution’s journey over 25 years. Prasad acknowledged donors’ role in the hospital’s growth and said expansion projects were planned in Hyderabad and Amaravati. Dr Dattatreyudu recalled the late Basavatarakam’s concern over lack of access to cancer care for women, saying the hospital’s growth reflected fulfilment of her vision.
Balakrishna described the staff as his extended family and announced a new initiative, Chairman’s Day, under which he would meet employees annually. The event featured cultural performances and a mythological dance‑drama by hospital staff.
