Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s upcoming wedding is making headlines for many reasons. While a wedding date has not been announced yet, Travis’s father, Ed Kelce, recently opened up about his excitement for his son’s marriage. Ed appeared for an interview while attending a fundraiser event in New Jersey on June 24, 2026, saying that Taylor is a “sweetheart” and also described the singer as a “girl next door.”

Ed Kelce was initially inspired to serve the country due to his family history

Ed Kelce was born into a family where most of the members were a part of the military. Although Ed developed an interest in football when he was a school student, he aimed to join the military. He once recalled in an interview that his family had witnessed everything during the Second World War. 

However, Ed could not enter the military as a knee injury prevented him from being enlisted. Later, while he was selected for the Coast Guard, he discovered his Crohn’s disease at boot camp. Ed later built a successful career as a sales representative in the steel industry. Kelce’s responsibilities included the selling of products to manufacturers, which included hats, safety glasses, and more. 

Ed Kelce spent his childhood in Collinwood, Cleveland, and enrolled at the Ohio State University after his graduation. Notably, he dropped out of the Ohio State University and later joined two other schools.

Ed Kelce got married to Donna Kelce in the ‘70s

Although it remains unknown when they met each other, Ed Kelce once said in an interview on the New Heights podcast that he met Donna when she was planning to go on a date with someone else. Ed was supposed to enter a bar when he saw Donna for the first time as she was waiting outside. The duo eventually started having a conversation, following which Donna did not go on the date that was already planned. Ed recalled the time when he met Donna, saying that he was surprised by how he left an impression on her. He said:

“I’m in coveralls that are covered in cement. We started talking and she gave me a ride home. She came in and I told her, ‘Hold on, let me change.’”

Ed and Donna then went to another bar. The pair had their first son, Jason, before they exchanged vows during the ‘70s. Following the birth of their second son, Travis, in 1989, the family started living together in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Ed and Donna were together for more than 25 years, and they later divorced. The former couple shares a close friendship, which was also revealed by Donna in a podcast interview.

Donna said that she doesn’t hate Ed, adding that she never regretted getting married to him because they had two children. Donna and Ed later claimed in a documentary, Kelce, that they decided to stay together until they could help their children.
