James Martin is one of Britain’s most famous chefs, but one celebrity was less than impressed by what the cook was rustling up when he appeared on the star’s show

A TV star who went on James Martin’s show insulted his cooking – but the chef’s reply left him stunned.

James Martin is one of the UK’s most renowned TV chefs. He appeared on programmes including Ready Steady Cook, The Big Breakfast, and Richard & Judy before becoming the presenter of Saturday Kitchen in 2006.

The 53-year-old left the BBC after 10 years before launching James Martin’s Saturday Morning on ITV in 2017.

James has a wide variety of celebrity guests on his show, which is filmed in his house. Two recent guests were TV actors Ralf Little and Will Mellor, who became great friends after starring on Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps together.

The actors told an amusing anecdote from their time on the show, all stemming from Will’s dislike of one particular food James was cooking.

The celebrated chef was rustling up prawns and squids on a wood fire oven, but Will was taken aback that the prawns still had their head on.

Ralf, 46, explained on The Two Pints Podcast: “So we go on James Martin’s show. James is this very successful chef, very talented chef, and he’s making us prawns, with their heads on, prawns and squid on a wood fire grill right there in front of us.

“He’s done his little bit to camera and the prawns are still cooking. Then we cut camera for like two minutes while they re-set some of the shots and then the prawns are ready.

“However in this moment, the wood grill started to smoke a little bit maybe because it good a bit too hot or something.

“Then Will turns to me and whispers off camera. This is filmed at his house, in his own manor, in his backyard, and Will goes: ‘He’s made a f***ing balls of those prawns hasn’t he. Burnt to f*** they are.”

Will, 50, then reveals what James said to him when he made his complaint about the prawns.

The actor, who also starred in Hollyoaks and Casualty, said: “What about what he said about the prawns? I said: ‘I don’t like their heads on.’ He went: ‘Grow up.'”

Despite the anecdote, both actors agreed that James is “a great guy” and “a top guy”.

Ralf said that his friend’s comment left him in tears of laughter, leaving TV producers worrying that he needed makeup because he was crying.

The Royle Family star said: “Then they go: ‘And we’re back in three, two, one,’ and I’m howling. Someone said ‘we need to get makeup in for Ralf’s eyes because he’s crying’ and he’s crying because this nobhead’s just turned around to me about the chef. About the world famous chef who knows how to cook these right.

“This is on camera, I hope you’ll see it on camera, James goes ‘this is how you cook rice.’ Will says: ‘How do you cook rice properly?’ James goes: ‘It’s easy. You just do one part rice, to four parts water.’ And Will goes: ‘What’s a part?’
