Lift Crashes In Meerpet Apartment, 8 Injured; One Critical

Eight persons were injured, one of them critically, after a lift plunged from the fourth floor to the ground floor in an apartment building at Hanumannagar in Meerpet on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, the victims had visited the apartment to inspect a newly constructed flat that had been put up for sale. After completing the inspection, all eight boarded the lift to descend. While moving down, the elevator reportedly came to an abrupt halt near the fourth floor before plunging to the ground floor.

Residents rushed to the spot after hearing a loud crash and alerted emergency services. The injured were shifted to a private hospital in LB Nagar, where doctors said one victim was in critical condition while the others were undergoing treatment for multiple injuries.

Meerpet police visited the apartment complex and launched an investigation. Officials are examining whether the accident was caused by a technical malfunction, poor maintenance of the lift or any other mechanical failure. The elevator’s maintenance records are also likely to be scrutinised as part of the inquiry. Police said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The injured were identified as Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy, 62; Padmini, 51; T. Venkateswarlu, 75; T. Nirmala, 69; P. Gopala Swamy, 71; P. Renuka, 65; T. Padma, 68; and T. Shobha, 64.

Pillion rider killed in Shamshabad crash

A 24‑year‑old vegetable vendor was killed when the motorcycle he was travelling on a pillion crashed into a cement barrier on NH‑44 near Shaneshwaram Temple in Madanpally village limits under Shamshabad police station.

The deceased was identified as Amanullah Khan of Gulshannagar, Charminar. His father Hameed Khan told police that Amanullah left home with his friend Mohammed Taysif to visit JP Dargah in Kothur.

Police said Taysif was riding the motorcycle at high speed and in a rash manner when he lost control and hit the barrier. Amanullah was thrown off and sustained severe chest injuries, dying on the spot.

Taysif suffered a leg injury in the accident. Based on the complaint, Shamshabad police registered a case against him for causing death by rash and negligent driving.

The body was shifted for post‑mortem and further investigation is underway.

Dharmasagar inspector attached to AR

Warangal police commissioner Sri Sunpreet Singh has attached Dharmasagar police station inspector Sreedhar Rao to the Armed Reserve (AR) pending an inquiry into allegations against him.

According to official sources, the commissioner issued orders on Saturday directing senior police officers to conduct a detailed inquiry into the allegations and submit a report.

Pending completion of the inquiry, Sreedhar Rao has been attached to the Armed Reserve, the order stated.

Police officials said further action would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

‘Gold Man’ held for ₹32 lakh fraud

Narayanguda police on Saturday arrested Pallapu Suresh Kumar alias Surya Bhai, popularly known as “Gold Man”, in connection with an alleged cheating case involving ₹32.3 lakh. He was apprehended at Attapur and remanded to judicial custody.

Police said the case was registered on June 26 following a complaint by Vegroj Krishna Chary, a real estate businessman and goldsmith who runs NS Jewellery at Himayathnagar. Chary alleged that Surya Bhai offered to supply one kilogram of 24‑carat gold at 20 per cent below market price.

Believing the offer, the complainant and his associates paid ₹11 lakh in cash at a popular café in Himayathnagar, followed by ₹10 lakh and ₹6 lakh in cash at different locations, besides gold ornaments worth ₹5.3 lakh.

Despite receiving cash and gold worth a total of ₹32.3 lakh, the accused neither supplied the promised gold nor returned the money. A case was registered under relevant sections and an investigation launched.

Police tracked down Surya Bhai at Attapur and arrested him. Further investigation into the cheating case is underway.

4 arrested for killing unidentified man at Mailardevpally godown

Mailardevpally police arrested four persons for assaulting and confining an unidentified man inside a decoration godown at Pallecheruvu, leading to his death.

According to police, the incident came to light when the body of an unidentified man was found inside Swasthic Shiva Decorators godown. During the investigation, police found that the victim had allegedly entered the godown while under the influence of alcohol and was moving around suspiciously.

The labourers working at the godown intercepted him and questioned him. As the man failed to explain his presence and behaved aggressively, they assaulted him and confined him inside the godown. He later died while in confinement.

Based on the investigation, police registered a case under BNS section 103 (1) and arrested the four accused, Balaji, Nayan Mandal, Uttam Bera alias Pintu and Prem Parihar and produced before the court.

Panchayat secretary caught taking ₹25,000 bribe

Telangana ACB caught Thammisetty Suresh, panchayat secretary of Bhanapuram Gram Panchayat in Khammam, for allegedly taking a Rs 25,000 bribe to process building permission and allot a house number, officials said on Saturday.

The bribe was allegedly accepted from the complainant near Rythu Vedika in Mudigonda mandal.

ACB officials said Suresh demanded the money for processing and granting building permission and allotting a house number to a one-room sheet-roofed house being built by the complainant on a five-kunta house site at Bhanapuram village.

The tainted amount was recovered from Suresh’s possession. The complainant’s details were withheld for security reasons.

Man arrested for luring women, filming intimate videos and extorting cash

Gachibowli police arrested a 24-year-old habitual accused for targeting women through social media, secretly recording intimate photographs and videos and using them to blackmail victims and extort money.

The accused, identified as Kilari Nagateja alias Nani, was arrested on Friday in connection with a robbery reported by a woman on June 22. According to police, the incident took place in Room No. 101 of Yellow Stone Hotel, opposite DLF Gate No. 3 in Gachibowli.

Police said the accused befriended the woman through social media and lured her to the hotel. Once inside the room, he allegedly forced her to pose for nude photographs and videos at knife point and transferred `1.10 lakh from her bank account online. The woman later approached the police, following which a case was registered and an investigation launched.

During the investigation, police seized two mobile phones allegedly used to store the victim’s intimate content and a knife believed to have been used in the offence.

Police said the accused primarily targeted women through Snapchat and other social media platforms. After gaining their trust, he persuaded them to meet at hotels, coerced them into recording intimate content and later used the material to blackmail them into paying money.

Police suspect there could be more victims and urged anyone who may have been similarly targeted to come forward.

Revenue staff suspended for tampering land record

Nizamabad collector Ila Tripathi on Saturday suspended record assistant J. Rahul, attached to the Nizamabad North Tahsildar’s office, over allegations of irregularities and tampering with revenue records (pahanis).

The action was taken following a preliminary inquiry into the alleged manipulation of land records.

The collector also ordered a departmental inquiry into the alleged irregularities and tampering of land records relating to Survey Nos. 291/A, 291/AA and 292 in Nizamabad North mandal.

Further action will be taken based on the findings of the departmental inquiry, officials said.

Goods vehicle runs over 4-year-old boy in Musheerabad

A four-year-old boy was killed after a goods vehicle allegedly ran over him at Bolakpur under the Musheerabad police station limits on Saturday.

According to local residents, the child had accompanied his mother to buy groceries in the neighbourhood. While they were walking along the road, the boy reportedly moved a short distance away from his mother. At that moment, a Tata Ace goods vehicle, allegedly being driven negligently, entered the lane, knocked down the child and ran over him.

The boy suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot before he could be shifted to a hospital.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the locality. The footage, which has surfaced on social media, shows the vehicle knocking down the child and has triggered demands for strict action against the driver.

Police reached the spot, shifted the body for post-mortem examination and registered a case. An investigation is underway.
