990 Booked In Weekend Drunk Driving Crackdown Across Tri-Commissionerates

Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri traffic police booked a total of 990 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during special weekend enforcement drives, reiterating a zero-tolerance approach against drunken driving. Many motorists were found with blood alcohol concentration levels exceeding 300 mg/100 ml.

Hyderabad traffic police registered the highest number of cases, booking 394 motorists during a two-day drive conducted on June 26 and 27. The violators included 326 two-wheeler riders, 30 three-wheeler drivers and 38 four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers.

Cyberabad traffic police apprehended 300 offenders, comprising 259 two-wheeler riders, six three-wheeler drivers, 34 four-wheeler drivers and one heavy vehicle driver.

Malkajgiri traffic police booked 296 motorists during its week-long special drive from June 21 to 27. The offenders included 249 two-wheeler riders, 14 three-wheelers, 32 four-wheelers and one heavy vehicle driver.

Traffic officials said all offenders would be produced before the respective courts. Authorities also warned that motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol and cause fatal road accidents will be booked under BNS section 105 relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.

Traffic police urged motorists not to drink and drive, stating that special enforcement drives will continue across the three commissionerates to improve road safety.

Traffic Home Guard booked for stalking, threatening woman with private photos

A 32-year-old traffic Home Guard attached to the Chikkadpally traffic police station has been booked by the Chaitanyapuri police for stalking a woman and threatening to leak her private photographs after she ended their relationship.

The accused, identified as Venkatesh, is married and was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship with the complainant for some time. According to the woman’s complaint, she recently decided to end the relationship, following which Venkatesh allegedly became enraged and began harassing her.

Police said the accused threatened to circulate the complainant’s private photographs and videos if she refused to resume the relationship. The woman alleged that he repeatedly intimidated and stalked her, forcing her to approach the police for protection.

Based on the complaint, the Chaitanyapuri police registered a case against Venkatesh under relevant sections relating to criminal intimidation and stalking. Police are also examining allegations regarding the misuse of the complainant’s private photographs.

Police have initiated an investigation and are questioning the accused as part of the inquiry.

Two killed, six injured in three-car crash

Two persons were killed and six others injured in a collision involving three vehicles on National Highway-65 at Gundrampally in Chityal mandal of Nalgonda district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Kasireddy Devender Reddy (55) and Depa Saritha (50), both residents of Akkenapally village in Narketpally mandal.

According to the police, the accident occurred after SuV, travelling from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada, suffered a tyre burst. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the median and overturned onto the opposite carriageway.

Two cars travelling towards Hyderabad then collided with the overturned vehicle.

The injured were shifted to the Government Hospital at Choutuppal for treatment. Devender Reddy and Saritha, who were travelling in the SuV, succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

The accident caused a traffic jam stretching nearly five kilometres on the Hyderabad-bound carriageway of NH-65.

Chityal police reached the spot, cleared the damaged vehicles and restored traffic after a brief disruption.

One killed, two injured in car-lorry crash

An Intermediate student was killed and two others were injured when the car in which they were travelling rammed a stationary lorry near the Srirampur GM Office at Indaram Crossroads in Mancherial district on Sunday.

Police said the speeding car crashed into the parked lorry, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.

Sai Susheel died on the spot, while passers-by rescued the two injured occupants and shifted them to a government hospital.

The victims are natives of Luxettipet and are currently residing in Mancherial. The deceased’s parents are teachers.
