The spotlight is once again back on Collin Gosselin ahead of the release of his most-awaited memoir, Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. In the memoir, which will be released in the latter half of 2026, Collin will go into detail about his time growing up in front of the cameras on Jon & Kate Plus 8. Additionally, he will also reveal more information about how his mom, Kate Gosselin, used to abuse him behind the scenes.
Collin Gosselin accused his mother, Kate Gosselin, of “scarring” abuse
The tensions are constantly rising between Collin and his mom, Kate, as the day of the release of the memoir draws near. In a lengthy statement shared to his Instagram Stories in November 2025, he recalled Kate’s alleged abusive behaviour toward him. He claimed that she would put scarring words into his head, and wrote:
“I remember when my mom would send my siblings off to school every day and then put her hands on me and drive scarring words into my head. I remember how I had to pretend like everything was fine once my siblings returned home.”
A seemingly frustrated Collin claimed that he is aware that there is a “growing epidemic of child abuse” and “child exploitation” that is not only sweeping across the nation but the entire globe. He added that he will use his voice and experiences to address that “epidemic,” writing, “Keep coming for me, I will keep advocating.”
According to Collin, his family’s reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8, had portrayed a false representation of how the dynamics between them actually were. He alleged that there are several dark secrets behind the scenes. And even though people on social media continue to say terrible things about him, he would never stop advocating for abused children. In his words:
“Late nights like this, I often think about how so many people are still upset that a show they watched for years portrayed a false narrative, while hiding so many dark secrets. Many people on social media have come to say some very horrible things about me, and I have one message for them. No matter how many hurtful things you say to me, I will never stop advocating for scapegoated and abused children. Never. Ever.”
Kate Gosselin’s lawyer defended her against Collin Gosselin’s accusations
Collin Gosselin, along with his seven siblings- twins, Mady and Cara, and Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah, and Joel- alongside his parents, Jon and Kate Gosselin, had starred in the TLC series from 2007 to 2009, for five seasons. Later, when Jon and Kate got divorced after over 10 years of marriage, the reality show continued in the spinoff, Kate Plus 8, from 2010 to 2017, for six seasons.
While things seemed fine in front of the cameras, Collin accused Kate of child abuse, claiming that she had zip-tied his hands and feet and locked him in the basement. According to him, his mom would also isolate him from his siblings, leading him to realise how he was always on “the brute end of things.” However, despite the many accusations that Collin levied against his mom, Kate’s lawyer, Richard Puleo, revealed in a statement that he did not believe that she had done anything to “intentionally harm” her son. He added:
“There’s always two sides to every story, and when things take place in the past, it’s hard to determine because people have differing recollections and perspectives. I think she did whatever she did to protect herself and her family from some of his troubled behaviour as a child. However, I think if Kate did the things that Collin is accusing Kate of, she would have been investigated by the authorities and prosecuted.”
