Spencer Matthews has candidly admitted a major life change put a strain on his marriage to Vogue Williams, revealing the couple ‘struggled’ as he developed a new obsession
Reality TV personality Spencer Matthews has revealed he and wife Vogue Williams “struggled” following a major shift in their lives.
Spencer, 37, and Vogue have been an item for nearly a decade and share children together, with baby number four expected later this year.
However, life under the spotlight isn’t without its challenges, and Spencer acknowledged that one of his entrepreneurial pursuits put pressure on their marriage.
Spencer previously had issues with heavy drinking before transforming his lifestyle and taking on a string of gruelling physical feats, including completing 30 marathons in 30 days across the Jordanian desert.
As part of his healthier approach to living, the father-of-three established CleanCo, a business offering alcohol-free spirits and ready-to-drink canned cocktails, reports the Irish Mirror.
Spencer openly acknowledges that when he launched the venture back in 2019, he became so consumed by making it work that it created problems in some of his personal relationships – his marriage included.
Speaking to adventurer Jordan Wylie on his Untapped podcast, Spencer said: “That is something my wife and I have struggled with in the past.
“When I started Clean Co, I was just like a dog with a bone. I slept sporadically, I was pacing around the kitchen at four in the morning chatting to Australian investors. I just had no chill, no off switch, was for all intents and purposes thinking I was Bill Gates, I was just in it.
“I couldn’t have been more dialled into it, some relationships, some friendships certainly, suffered to the point of extinction. There’s just no time for it.
“It’s nothing personal. Time that I would have spent in the time with my pals replaced with Zooms and project building calls with your team. I’m just more excited by that and this stage of my life.”
Spencer and Vogue’s fourth child is expected in August. The couple already share sons Theodore, seven, Gigi, five and four year old Otto, having first met on reality TV programme The Jump.
This follows Vogue’s admission that she hunted down an online troll who bombarded her with “awful stuff” and exacted brutal revenge. Vogue is evidently well-versed in the downsides of celebrity life, boasting 1.2 million Instagram followers, hosting three podcasts and appearing on everything from Bear Grylls: Mission Survive to I’m A Celeb.
One contemporary showbiz peril arrives in the shape of online trolling, and Vogue appears to have endured her fair share of hurtful remarks. Back in February, she recounted a “bizarre” online exchange where someone made a cruel comment about her face.
She told the Vogue and Amber podcast that the person had asked her when she was “going to get rid of that wart on your face”, referring to her mole, prompting Vogue to tag them in a post.
Vogue has now detailed another separate incident where a woman would send her “awful stuff” – and she chose to track her down and alert her family. She revealed to The Mail’s Harriet Kean: “She would mail me this awful stuff, so I found her second name because she was using her own account, and emailed some of her family, and said, ‘This is what she has been sending me’.”
