EXCLUSIVE: GRL singer Lauren Bennett tragically died in May this year and was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called over concerns about her welfare
GRL singer Lauren Bennett died after “concerns for her welfare”. The singer, who featured on LMFAO’s 2011 hit song Party Rock Anthem, was just 36-years-old at the time of her death.
In a statement to the Mirror, Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called to an address in Meopham at about 2pm on Friday 29 May 2026 following concerns for the welfare of a person.
“Officers attended, along with SECAMB and a woman in her 30s was pronounced deceased. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report has been prepared for the coroner.” On Monday, her former GRL bandmates took to social media to share the tragic news that Lauren had died. They paid tribute to Lauren, saying she was a “beautiful spirit”.
In a statement, the Lighthouse singers said: “It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren. Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us. We will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved.
“Rest peacefully, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts. Your GRLS, Em, Tash, and P.” Lauren’s former bandmate, Aria Crescendo, of The Paradiso Girls, also shared a moving tribute. Sharing a video montage of Lauren, Aria said: “RIP Lauren my sister my best friend I can’t believe you left us . We spoke a week before it all happened and I could not imagine that would be the last time I would be able to talk to you.
“Love you and miss you forever.” Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls, of which GRL was based on said: “I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. She was magnificent. Beautiful, talented and so incredibly sweet. May she rest in peace.”
Robin Antin, the mastermind behind Pussycat Dolls and GRL said on her Instagram Stories: “I’m so heartbroken… Shattered. My best friend, my family, my love… I will not go a day without missing our late night chats about creative ideas… Laughing our a***es off, sending funny videos back and forth to each other, over and over… I miss you LB… I’ll never let go, you’re with me forever.”
Bennett first burst onto the music scene as a member of The Paradiso Girls in 2007, alongside six other women. The following year, the group was trimmed down to just five members, with Lauren among them.
Three years on, however, the group went their separate ways, with Lauren embarking on a solo career and lending her vocals to a remix of Will.i.am’s I Got It From my Mama. This collaboration marked her as a rising star to watch, before she teamed up with LMFAO and featured on their worldwide smash, Party Rock Anthem, which became her first Number One single in the UK.
After appearing in the Pussycat Dolls fitness DVD, it was founder Robin who helped propel Lauren to further heights with GRL, alongside bandmates Natasha Slayton, Emmalyn Estrada, Paula van Oppen and the late Simone Battle. In June 2013, the group dropped their debut single, Vacation, which featured in The Smurfs 2, immediately propelling them to international recognition.
Chart success followed swiftly before they teamed up with Pitbull on Wild Wild Love, which reached the Top 10 in the UK, where Lauren hails from.
Then came their track Ugly Heart, which cemented the group’s status as the biggest girl group of their era, securing four platinum certifications. Yet alongside their meteoric rise came devastating tragedy: Lauren’s bandmate, Simone Battle, was found dead at her West Hollywood home during the peak of their success.
After Simone’s death, which a coroner determined to be suicide, Lauren and her remaining bandmates established the Give an Hour campaign – GRL Gives an Hour, aimed at highlighting mental health challenges. The group also paid tribute to Battle through their single, Lighthouse.
While remaining in the spotlight, Lauren also kept certain aspects of her life private. In 2019, the singer and her partner, Footloose star Kenny Wormald, revealed they were expecting their first baby together.
Their daughter, Harlow, arrived on September 6, 2019. Bennett leaves behind daughter Harlow and partner Kenny.
