
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued widespread heavy rainfall alerts across several parts of the country on Wednesday as active monsoon conditions intensified over western, central, northern and southern India. The weather agency also said the southwest monsoon has advanced further into Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana.
Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. Widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is also expected over East and West Rajasthan.
In North and Northwest India, rainfall activity is expected to increase significantly, with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. East and West Uttar Pradesh are also likely to witness heavy showers along with lightning.
In the south, active monsoon conditions are expected to bring isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect for Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, as the monsoon continues to remain active over eastern and northeastern parts of the country.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected states to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
