The makers of Shani have officially wrapped up principal photography, marking a key milestone for the upcoming Malayalam mystery thriller starring Arjun Ashokan and Roshan Mathew. The film, which began production in April, now heads into post production as the team gears up for the next phase of its journey.

Shani marks the directorial debut of Suvin S Somasekharan, who previously penned Joju George’s Star and Tovino Thomas-starrer Nadikar. While the makers are keeping the plot firmly under wraps, the film has been billed as a mystery thriller, raising curiosity about what the first-time director has in store.

Gouri G Kishan plays the female lead, while the supporting cast includes Balu Varghese, Harisree Ashokan, Suryakrish, Jeo Baby and Veena Nair in pivotal roles. The film also boasts an accomplished technical crew, with veteran cinematographer Venu handling the visuals, Ratheesh Raj on editing duties, and acclaimed composer duo Yakzan Gary Pereira and Neha Nair scoring the music.

Produced by Sultan Jasani and Chetan Deoolekar under the banners of Jasani Entertainment INC and 6 Dimensions Films and Media LLP, Shani is expected to enter post production immediately, although the makers are yet to announce a release date.

Arjun and Roshan reunite as both actors juggle packed line-ups

Shani brings Arjun Ashokan and Roshan Mathew together for the second time after this year’s sports comedy action entertainer Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies. While their previous collaboration leaned into humour and action, the new film promises a complete shift in tone, with suspense and mystery taking centre stage.

Roshan was most recently seen in the investigative thriller Uyir, in which he played a police officer. The actor continues to build an eclectic filmography, seamlessly moving between commercial entertainers and content-driven cinema.

Arjun, meanwhile, has a busy slate ahead. He will next be seen in the Joju George-starrer Varavu, directed by Shaji Kailas, which is slated to hit theatres on July 16. He is also part of debutant Nikhil Mohan’s Melcow Pondicherry and Anchakkallakokkan director Ullas Chemban’s upcoming multi-starrer Disco.

With filming now complete, anticipation is likely to build around Shani in the coming months. A fresh director at the helm, two of Malayalam cinema’s most dependable young performers in the lead, and an experienced technical team behind the scenes make the project one to watch. As the film moves through post production, audiences can expect more updates on its release and the mystery that lies at the heart of its story.
