Human remains believed to be those of a missing 13-year-old girl have been found after an extensive police search in regional Victoria.

Detectives from the missing person squad conducted a large-scale search in Donald on Thursday, about 280 north-west of Melbourne, after the teen was reported missing last Sunday.

The missing girl was last seen on Saturday on McCracken Street in Donald.

Police searched the area, along with officers from the dog squad, air wing, and the search and rescue squad. They found the remains late on Thursday afternoon.

“While the remains are yet to be formally identified, they are believed to be that of the missing girl,” police said.

Police also confirmed a warrant was executed at a home in the area late on Friday morning as part of the investigation.

“The investigation into the circumstances around the death of the girl remain ongoing, however police are currently treating it as suspicious,” they said.
