The first look of Trust Me, I’m a Doctor was revealed a few days ago on July 7, 2026. Notably, the upcoming biopic is based on the life of the late actress, Anna Nicole Smith. The film has been in production for a long time. Back in 2024, it was reported that the film would focus on the final days of Anna, who reportedly died of an accidental overdose in 2007.
Trust Me, I’m a Doctor will feature Abbie Cornish portraying Anna. While the first look of the film is now trending everywhere, Anna’s ex-boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, has now criticised the biopic.
What did Larry Birkhead say about Anna Nicole Smith’s biopic?
For the unversed, Larry Birkhead and Anna Nicole Smith’s love story dates back to 2003 when they first met each other. This was followed by an on-and-off relationship between 2005 and 2006. While the romance stayed out of the limelight, Anna had a daughter named Dannielynn in 2006. However, after Anna died in 2007, a DNA test confirmed that Larry was Dannielynn’s father.
Larry recently appeared for an interview with Entertainment Tonight on July 10, 2026 (ET), sharing his opinion about the upcoming biopic. Larry said during the conversation:
“We don’t condone this. We’re not involved in this production and we absolutely object to any of Anne and Nicole’s, my life, my daughter’s life, being used in a movie and be make characters out of by someone that was a doctor that supposedly that people are supposed to trust.”
Larry’s words referred to Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, Anna’s doctor, who was accused of prescribing medication to the actress before her demise. However, the doctor was later found not guilty in the case.
Larry Birkhead says he was approached to make some comments about the film
Larry Birkhead said that when the movie based on Anna Nicole Smith was announced, he received a few calls from the press that asked him to comment on it. However, Larry refused to do it since he was not sure if the movie would happen until it was recently announced.
Larry was asked what people should know about the relationship that Anna and Dr Sandeep Kapoor shared with each other. Larry said that no one visits a doctor thinking that once they leave, their life will be the main focus of a movie. He further stated:
“I think that people, you know, want to trust their doctor. And the title is called Trust Me I’m a Doctor. And that’s not lost on me, because I feel like that you want to be able to trust your doctor and you want to think that they have your best interest at heart. And so, I’m concerned that this gives doctors a bad name because I think that this is just not something that your ordinarily see in a situation when a doctor’s putting out a movie, you know, about a patient’s life.”
Larry Birkhead said that he spoke to the doctor and his representatives about everything that happened years ago. He stated that he warned them about the impact it would have on everyone, including his daughter. Larry said that the doctor told him they were not interested in being in the limelight anymore.
Larry shared his opinion about the first look. He referred to Abbie Cornish, stating that although she is a good actress, he doesn’t think that she was able to portray Anna Nicole Smith on screen. Larry clarified that he was not targeting Abbie and gave some examples of how Anna has been portrayed on screen in other projects. He continued by saying:
“I think that I have yet to see someone who actually embodied the spirit and the looks and the persona of Anna Nicole. And again, not attack to the, of any actress, but I think that, that’s more I think it says more about Anna and who she was because she was so magnetic. I think it takes a lot to capture that. It’s yet to be done.”
