What happens in the film, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do? (Spoiler alert)
Pati Patni Aur Woh Do follows a forest officer named ‘Prajapati Pandey’ (played by Ayushmann Khurana). He lives in Prayagraj with his wife, ‘Aparna’ (played by Wamiqa Gabbi). ‘Aparna’ is a passionate journalist. ‘Nilofer Khan’ (played by Rakul Preet Singh) is ‘Prajapati’s’ colleague and best friend. One day, ‘Prajapati’s’ college friend, ‘Chanchal Kumari’ (played by Sara Ali Khan), comes to his office.
‘Chanchal’ is in love with ‘Sudhanshu Tiwari’ a.k.a ‘Sunny’ (played by Vishal Vashishtha). ‘Sunny’ is the son of MLA ‘Gajraj Tiwari’ (played by Tigmanshu Dhulia). But as ‘Chanchal’ belongs to a lower caste, she and ‘Sunny’ are dating in secret. However, things turned chaotic when a picture of ‘Sunny’ with a burkha-clad ‘Chanchal’ is out on a local newspaper. ‘Gajraj’ is enraged about this and orders his men to find who this burkha-clad woman is.
Meanwhile, ‘Sunny’ is planning to escape with ‘Chanchal’ to Canada, but it will take 10 more days. ‘Gajraj’s’ men start suspecting ‘Chanchal’ and start following her 24*7. With no other option left, ‘Chanchal’ and ‘Sunny’ stop meeting each other. ‘Chanchal’ then meets ‘Prajapati’ and asks for his help. ‘Prajapati’ hatches a plan to fake an affair with ‘Chanchal’ so that ‘Gajraj’s’ men stop following her. He also makes it clear to ‘Chanchal’ that he will inform his wife, ‘Aparna’, about their plan.
A twist to the story comes when an excited ‘Aparna’ confesses to ‘Prajapati’ that she was the one who leaked the photo of ‘Sunny’ and the burkha-clad woman. She also tells ‘Prajapati’ that ‘Gajraj’ has promised to help her open her own news channel if she can unveil the identity of the burkha-clad woman. As a result, ‘Prajapati’ could not tell ‘Aparna’ about his and ‘Chanchal’s’ secret plan. He lies to her and starts meeting ‘Chanchal’ to fake an affair.
Pati Patni Aur Woh Do ending explained (Spoiler alert)
During the process of faking the affair with ‘Chanchal’, ‘Prajapati’ lands in bigger trouble when ‘Nilofer’ gets to know it. She confronts ‘Prajapati’ and also decides to break the news to his wife, ‘Aparna’. However, things go wrong when ‘Aparna’ finds ‘Prajapati’ with ‘Nilofer’ and ‘Chanchal’ and thinks that her husband cheated on her with two women.
But in the climax, it is revealed that ‘Prajapati’ never actually cheated on ‘Aparna’. The entire affair with ‘Chanchal’ was a staged act. In the final scene, after a massive fight inside the local forest department office, ‘Prajapati’ finally reunites ‘Sunny’ and ‘Chanchal’. He also exposes ‘Sunny’s’ father’s corruption.
