Honey Trehan’s film Satluj, starring Diljit Dosanjh, continues to remain in the middle of a controversy. Formerly titled Punjab ’95, the film was recently removed from its OTT platform. However, new updates reveal that the movie is reportedly being screened publicly at multiple locations, including parts of Punjab and Jammu, without authorization.
These unauthorized public screenings have now triggered a legal challenge. A letter petition has been filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking immediate action to halt these screenings. The petition was filed by Advocate Vineet Jindal, who approached the Chief Justice of the High Court over the matter. Jindal also shared a copy of the petition on X.

In his social media post detailing the legal move, Jindal wrote, “A letter petition has been filed by Advocate Vineet Jindal before the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking immediate directions to prevent the illegal streaming and unauthorized public screening of the film Satluj in the State of Punjab. By this Letter petition before the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, I am seeking appropriate action against individuals, religious organisations, and political parties involved in organising illegal public screenings of the film. Such screenings are allegedly being used to promote violence and spread hatred against a community as well as the security agencies.”
He further added, “These illegal acts pose a serious threat to peace, public order, and communal harmony in the State of Punjab. I have, therefore, sought appropriate directions to prevent such unlawful screenings and to ensure that those responsible are proceeded against in accordance with law.”
In a separate video shared on the matter, the advocate argued that exhibiting a movie without obtaining the necessary legal clearance or a valid authorized release amounts to an illegal act. He urged the respective authorities to register First Information Reports (FIRs) and take strict legal action against those organizing these events.
Satluj is inspired by the life and death of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film initially premiered on OTT on July 3, 2026, but was abruptly withdrawn from the streaming platform just days later on July 5, 2026. The sudden removal sparked widespread discussions regarding censorship, legal procedures, and the circulation of the movie through unauthorized channels.
Following its removal from the streaming platform Zee5, the company had issued an official statement explaining the situation. The statement read, “In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity.”
As the legal proceedings unfold in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the future availability and authorized release of the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer remain uncertain.
