The Hamptons-based architect Peter Cook and Diana Bianchi first met in the summer of 2004. Back then, she was 17 years old and worked at Stevenson’s Toys and Games in Southampton, New York. In the toy store, Diana used to earn USD 12 per hour. Peter often used to visit the store to buy gifts for his children. At the time, he was married to American model Christie Brinkley and shared two kids, daughter, Sailor Lee Brinkley-Cook and her son, Jack, whom he had adopted.
Initially, Diana did not realise Peter was interested in her, but co-workers noticed that he kept coming to the store and used to pay special attention to her. Things changed when the toy store closed for the season. At the time, Peter offered Diana a job at his architecture company. She joined his office in 2005 and wrote articles for the company. Diana got to know that Peter was a married man and noticed a large family photo of Christie Brinkley and their children hanging above her desk. Speaking to the New York Post, Diana said:
“I didn’t notice if he was. I never thought that he would be or that he should be. People around me were like, ‘Oh, he’s coming in here a lot.’ I didn’t really consider it. I needed the money; I needed a job. I had just moved out of my house; I was trying to do things on my own. I didn’t want [my parents] to think I couldn’t do it on my own.”
Soon after Diana joined Peter’s company, things quickly turned sexual between them. Speaking to the New York Post, Diana shared that things started with little comments from Peter. He then physically made advances towards her. Diana admitted that back then she was a little naive and didn’t really understand what was really happening. Later, things turned a bit bolder when Peter rubbed up against her and playfully touched her arms. Recalling Peter’s sexual advances, Diana said:
“He first physically made an advance at me, probably around a month after I started working there. He just started being physically around me more and physically closer to me more. One time, I was standing at the desk, and he was doing something on, like, Microsoft Word, and he wrote, ‘How would you feel if I told you I was attracted to you?’ And I was like, ‘Uh, I dunno.’ I didn’t really answer him. I was kind of thinking, ‘Are you serious? Are you kidding?’ I really didn’t know what to do at that point.”
Diana shared that Peter used to tell her that he was unhappy and was having problems at home. They soon began sleeping together. Diana shared that they were not dating. She admitted that things made her feel uncomfortable, and she broke up with him in 2006. Diana added that Peter had approached other girls as well. In her words:
“We started talking about things, and he was telling me that he was unhappy and that he was having problems at home. We were not out dating [in public]. We didn’t do anything like that. I felt uncomfortable. I had never been with anyone who was married. I was always on the right track. This was all new to me. I’m not the first person that this was happening with. I guess there’s a lot of other girls in this position right now, and it’s not a good place to be.”
During the divorce trial, Peter admitted that he hired Diana simply so he could sleep with her. During their affair, he also gifted her luxurious gifts. He mentioned in court that they had sex 12 times, two times in the office and five times each at his homes in Sag Harbour and Water Mill. Peter wrote to Diana in an email, “I don’t know, you put me under your spell. You never asked me, but I left you money anyway.” However, when Christie confronted Peter, he said that it was Diana who seduced him one day; she just took off her clothes in his office and declared, “Let’s have sex.”
