Jain Monk’s Chaturmas in Vijayawada Begins With Grand Procession

Vijayawada: Jain devotees took out a grand procession in Vijayawada on Sunday as part of celebrating the Chaturmas Pravesh Mahotsav of revered Jain monk Muniraj Abhinandan Sagar Vijayji Maharaj, an eminent Jain scholar and Mahashatavadhani, was celebrated with religious fervour in Vijayawada.

Devotees from Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Chennai, Narsapur, Tenali, and other places participated in large numbers in the procession organised by the Shri Sambhavnath Jain Shwetambar Murtipujak Sangh and received the blessings of the spiritual leader.

A procession started at 8:30 a.m. from Vastralatha Market. It passed through B.R.P. Road, R.R. Appa Rao Street, and the newly built Shri Sambhavnath Jain Temple before reaching Shri Ajitnath Pravachan Vatika in Palli Street. Devotees accorded a warm welcome to the monk and his disciples for the formal Chaturmas.

Addressing the Dharmasabha on the occasion, Sangh President Madanlal Hemraj Jain welcomed the gathering. Secretary Pannalal Jain highlighted the significance of Chaturmas and the monk’s contribution to Jain philosophy and scriptural learning.

In his discourse, Abhinandan Sagar Vijayji Maharaj described the Chaturmas as the most sacred period for self-purification, penance, discipline, and scriptural study. He explained that Jain monks stay at one place during the monsoon to protect even microscopic living beings, while holding discourses on their religious teachings.

Vijayji Maharaj urged devotees to practise daily worship, Navkar Mahamantra chanting, scriptural study, fasting, compassion, non-violence, truth and forgiveness during the Chaturmas, while imparting religious values to children and strengthening unity within the community. Students of the Sanskar Vatika presented devotional and cultural programmes.
