KARIMNAGAR: With the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls witnessing a poor response from elderly and less-educated voters, a corporator in Nizamabad has launched an incentive scheme, offering household appliances through a lucky draw to encourage people to complete the enrolment process.
Pulagam Vaishnavi Sudha, corporator of the 22nd division of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, announced that voters who complete the SIR process and register their names with her office would be eligible for the draw. Winners will be selected after the completion of the enrolment drive on July 24.
Under the scheme, the first prize winner will receive a mixer grinder, while the second and third prize winners will get a pressure cooker and either an electric kettle or a table fan.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Vaishnavi Sudha said a majority of voters in her division belonged to economically weaker sections and were unaware of the SIR exercise, resulting in a slow enrolment process.
“To create awareness and encourage participation, I announced the prizes,” she said.
The corporator said she had also deployed 15 volunteers to assist voters and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with the enrolment process. She claimed the response had improved after the incentive scheme was announced.
