Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly is receiving praise for her mesmerising performance in a gripping drama.
Paramount+’s The Crow Girl has just started airing and it sees Katherine as the extremely complex character, Sophia Craven.
The second season, which has an eerie trailer, delves into the traumatic past of Sophia’s childhood and unveils the true impact it has had on her in the present.
Lead actress Eve Myles told Digital Spy that Kelly was “absolutely a sensation” this season, calling her work “bold, ambitious, tender, [and] beautiful”.
The eldest of four children, Kelly, 46, was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and trained at the prestigious RADA alongside stars like Laurence Fox and Elliot Cowan.
She rose to prominence with her portrayal of Becky McDonald in Coronation Street in 2006 and here is all you need to know about the star.
Katherine Kelly’s relationships
In 2013, the actor married Australian digital analyst Ryan Clark in Las Vegas and they went on to have two daughters- Orla and Rose – together.
She and her husband, who is also an amateur boxer, had been together for three years before they got married in secret.
Kelly had told her family she was going on holiday with her boyfriend but came back married, following a small ceremony at the Little Church of the West.
In August 2020, the couple announced their separation when Kelly relocated moved back from north London to her home town of Barnsley.
A spokesman told The Sun at the time: “They see it as a positive move for both of them and the separation is completely amicable.
“Their children are their top priority and they will continue to co-parent as good friends.”
In 2022, it was reported Kelly had started dating Line of Duty actor, Tony Pitts.
The couple turned heads in November of that year when they went public with their relationship at the Dancing with Heroes ball, although it was reported they had already been in a relationship for “some time”.
Pitts, who is 63, is also known for playing Archie Brooks in Emmerdale Farm between 1983 and 1993.

More than 12 million soap fans watched Kelly’s character Becky McDonald’s dramatic exit from Coronation Street back in 2012.
During an emotional scene, she turned up at her ex-husband Steve’s (Simon Gregson) wedding reception, to deliver the news that his new wife Tracy (Kate Ford) had been lying to him about Becky causing her to miscarry their babies.
In a dramatic exit, she then jumped on a plane and flew to Barbados with her new man. The actress admitted she shed a tear when she watched the episode back herself.
She opened up to The Guardian about the unexpected success of the role, which she took on in 2006 and played for six years.
“When I finished at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2005, I found myself surrounded by exciting prospects – from the RSC asking me back for the next season to auditions at different theatres,” she said.
“But metamorphosis is so important to me, and I remember saying to my agent, ‘I should probably do a bit more telly’.
“My biggest ambition has always been to play the widest variety of characters I can, and I was worried I was being put in a lane.
“Miraculously, my agent called and said, ‘There’s this character in Coronation Street; she’s only in it for six episodes. What do you think?’
“I can’t bear snobbery – I don’t regard art as high brow or low brow – so I said, ‘Of course I want to audition!’ Thankfully, I got it, and I did the six episodes, which turned into years.”

Kelly’s first television role after leaving Coronation Street was in the BBC Four biopic Best Possible Taste, in which she played Lee Middleton, the wife of the late DJ and comedian Kenny Everett.
She went on to play socialite Lady Loxley in the ITV drama Mr Selfridge and in 2015 she joined the cast of Happy Valley as DI Jodie Shackleton, a part that was written for her by series creator Sally Wainwright.
Her most recent role was as Katrina in How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge), and she is due to star in the political comedy-drama series, Number 10.

On Paramount+, fans can see her in Season 2 of The Crow Girl as Sophia Craven – a psychotherapist who is really the unstable murder suspect Victoria Burkeman, suffering with multiple personalities.
As she has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Sophia is unaware she is also a dangerous killer.
Speaking on ITV’s This Morning ahead of Season 2, the actress said she had no idea of Sophia’s big twist, saying: “When I took this job, I did it because I wanted to work with Eve, and they said ‘Yes, she’s a psychologist, helping Eve’s character Jeanette solve this case’.
“I said ‘Oh, great’. I didn’t realise I was actually playing half a person.”
