X Factor star Lucy Spraggan shared a heartbreaking message with her followers as she tearfully explained her 35th birthday ‘hasn’t been the most amazing birthday’

Former X Factor star Lucy Spraggan was in tears as she marked her 35th birthday with some devastating news. The singer, who rose to fame after her stint on the ITV competition in 2012, filmed a sad message as tears streamed down her face.

She said the that “hasn’t been the most amazing birthday” as she lay beside her ageing Steven. She explained how they had ended up at the vets due to the 13-year-old pooch’s failing health.

Speaking to her followers, Lucy said: “We had a conversation that no dog owner or animal owner ever wants to have and that’s about Steven’s health and how it’s been deteriorating over time.”

The emotional star revealed she got the dog just before her 22nd birthday, and said he has been with her through a huge moments in her life.

But, sadly, the star revealed she is in pieces as his health fails him. “Sadly, his health just won’t get better,” she said. “And I know he’s in pain a lot of the time, and I spoke to the vets today about what that looks like in the future, in the not so distant future.”

She continued: “Now, this bout of illness, if it gets better, it gets better. But if it doesn’t, we’re going to say goodbye to this boy. And I wanted to share this with you because you guys have have loved him as much as I have all along the way.

“So I just wanted to share it with you. Nobody ever wants to lose their dog, but I’m so grateful that he has been such an amazing part of my life, and I would never ever let him be in bed for longer than he needs to be.

“So thank you for everyone that’s wished him well and give him all the love. Yeah, it sucks. But grief is there because love is there. But I love you, Steven.”

She admitted she feels as though her pet thinks “my job is done” as she said he helped him through so many huge life moment. Lucy went on to thank her wife for “holding us together” through such hard times.

Among those sending love in the comments section was Lizzie Cundy. She wrote: “Sending you so much love,” with two red love heart emojis. Megan McKenna also shared her compassion as she liked the post.

Lucy uploaded past memories of her beloved pet to her Instagram Stories. One funny clip showed the animal eating crisps as Lucy said: “Nothing makes me happier than Steve eating wotsits.”

She has often shared updates on social media regarding Steven and explained how having him has helped her. A day earlier, Lucy said: “I reckon heaven will actually just be Cornwall on the beach with my dog,” a she shared clips from her recent getaway.
