Former Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson was allegedly a menace after he was taken into custody for shoplifting last week.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The California Post on Wednesday, after Lawson was arrested in Douglas County, Colo. over allegations he stole a $34 bottle of Tito’s vodka from a Castle Rock liquor store, he lashed out at a police officer.
Lawson screamed and repeatedly called the cop “bitch” and “white bitch” during the pre-booking process, the document stated.
At times, according to the report, he kicked his cell’s glass wall and yelled “stop” over and over again. He also allegedly spit on the floor.
However, the document did note Lawson eventually “calmed down” and apologized for his actions.
Lawson’s initial encounter with the Castle Rock Police Dept. occurred just after 8 p.m. on July 16, after a liquor store worker accused the former basketball player of taking a bottle of booze from the shop without paying before drunkenly taking it to a nearby restaurant.
When Lawson was confronted over the allegations by police, he smelled “of an unknown alcoholic substance,” the probable cause affidavit stated.
Lawson was ultimately booked on a theft < $300 shoplifting charge and released.
The 38-year-old — who played for several teams in his eight-year NBA career, including the Sacramento Kings — has not yet publicly commented on the arrest.
