Hyderabad: The forest department has started making plans to tackle water shortage in the forests in the wake of the ongoing poor monsoon season, with instructions issued to field officials to ensure availability of water for wild animals to drink.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (head of forest force) and chief wildlife warden Vinay Kumar, during a video conference with department officials from various districts on Thursday, said there can be no compromises when it comes to ensuring water availability for wildlife.
Directing the officials in the field to plan in advance, Vinay Kumar said after assessing the existing water holes and artificial saucer pits, if required, more water holes should be created.
Reiterating that availability of drinking water for wildlife should be a top priority, Vinay Kumar called for regular monitoring of all water holes and ensuring their filling in a timely manner. He also called on officials not to neglect the tree planting exercise and not just focus on meeting planting targets but also take steps to ensure that the saplings survive.
