In an interview with The Brisben Times, David Lee Roth spoke extensively about his personal life. The singer grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, near the Kentucky border. His mother was an art teacher who used to teach Spanish. David grew up with his two sisters, and his mom was so much into art that she would always ask her kids to embrace it as well. David didn’t have much interaction with his dad, as he was a serious academic.
David, in the interview, revealed that he had witnessed his parents fighting, even before they got married. He was even told by his mother that he was an accident. When David was in 9th or 10th grade, his mom was in an accident after falling off a horse, which required her to stay in the hospital for a year. According to the American singer, with her return home, the marital life issues between her parents peaked, and it provided the singer with a lesson that when it’s over, it’s over.
By the age of 12, David said he had emotionally moved out of his home; however, when he was 17, his parents officially parted ways. While David stayed with his dad, his sisters were left with his mom. According to him, his dysfunctional family is the reason for the way he is. Recalling his childhood, David said:
“Coming from a supremely dysfunctional family, I can see why I am the way I am. I spiritually left the family home at 12, but moved out with Dad when I was 17. That’s when my parents officially split.”
David got his first crush when he was in his fourth grade. However, his first physical intimacy happened when he was 14 years old, and it was with an 18-year-old girl. David admitted to having multiple sexual encounters with several girls, and according to him, as he was famous, he had plenty of ‘options’.
Speaking of his serious relationships, David said that he had experienced true love four times, but he never got married to them or moved closer to that commitment. His relationships lasted from one to one and a half years. Speaking more about his past serious relationships, David said:
“I have had four great loves in my life, but have never been married or even come close. Those women are now all married and we’re still good friends. I won’t name anybody as they all have spouses and private lives, but the lines on my forehead are named after them.”

Despite finding love several times, David Lee Roth never actually got married. Speaking to Buzzfeed, David shared that he had spent his adult life alone. He also stated that he is not the one who would be convinced by traditional stuff. When David found out that it’s up to him whether to get married or not, he decided not to. He said:
“I’ve lived alone my whole adult life. I’ve had girlfriends. I’ve had love affairs. Never longer than a year and a half. I’m the drunk who won the lottery – I’m going to be very difficult to convince of a lot of traditional things. I put off getting married when I found out: oh, you don’t really have to! There’s a lot of us out there.”
