PHILADELPHIA — The Yankees, already without Aaron Judge, may have another worry in the outfield, as Cody Bellinger left Saturday’s game against the Phillies with a potential injury.
Bellinger doubled with two outs in the top of the eighth on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park and after sliding into second and appearing hobbled, waved off the trainers and remained in the game.
He appeared to slow down before he got to second base on the double in the eighth, a possible sign of a leg injury and was removed prior to the bottom of the inning, replaced in left field by Max Schuemann.
Bellinger had slumped at the plate of late, with just five extra-base hits — all doubles — in his previous 30 games.
His OPS over that span was .535 after putting up an OPS of .860 in his first 71 games.
He was warming up a bit of late and had two hits on Saturday, including an RBI single.
And Bellinger has continued to be superb in left field.
“He’s been so good out there,’’ Aaron Boone said before the game. “I’ve leaned more on leaving him there on days instead of moving him to center or right. His left field [play] is so stellar.”
The Yankees offense has took a serious downturn in recent weeks, with the indefinite loss of Judge due to a fractured rib taking a toll.
While Bellinger hasn’t maintained his torrid early pace at the plate, his presence in the middle of the lineup is still crucial.
